melvey, why do you say you have played terrible football, is it cause you lost those games? every supporter says they played terrible when they lose, including me. Maybe thats what your current list is capable of? Unfortunatley you can have as much top end talent as you like, but if you fall away from 10 onwards you will struggle against the best sides, which may to a supporter look like bad football but its what they ARE capable of. I look forward to this rivalry over the next couple of years as both teams mature

Seriously, you guys have to be kidding. The facts are you guys have a good list up to about player 10, from there you fall away dramatically and are nowhere near the premiership you think you are. The bombers have had an unbelievable amount of injuries for the last 3 years and this year in particular and we still managed to beat you early on with a lot of our best side missing, you guys have a soft draw as opposed to ours and thats why you are on equal wins. You say we rely on our older players to win games, but the fact is most them have missed big chunks of the season. The fact the you are all so preoccupied with us shows that you know we are further advanced than you, even with all your number 1 draft picks. And that fact drives you all crazy

Read the Bombers thread in the AFL thread. Allot of people on her have egg on there faces

As much as i hate the Bombers (best rivalry in the AFL) my hat goes off to your coach in how he has constructed the resurgence of your club and how he has got the confidence up amongst the playing group.

believe it or not but you guys have some talented kids on your list. You have around 15-16 players currently on your list that were picked between 2 and 25 in the national draft, it goes unnoticed because none of those were number 1.

But i say this, you guys are playing good team football and have 8 wins. We have played terrible football and are on the same amount of wins. It hasn't clicked for us as it has with you guys.

Melvey, I've stood up for you once or twice in the past when you were vaguely on the right side of delusional but this Bombers fetish ain't doing you any good whatsoever.

They're shit.

We've got a long way to go before we're a regular top 4 contender but they're so far behind us it's not funny.

They have a handful of good kids and a core of older players who are fading fast. And I don't care where they were picked in the draft.

They're the Richmond of the next 10 years. In fact they may be dreaming of 9th place by then.

If you're teaching someone something you start with the basics and work from there. The idea that you give the players confidence by letting them run free and seeing what happens is so short-sighted it's ridiculous. It's not sustainable and they're going to get smashed over the long term if they stick with it. I want complete players who can switch modes when necessary and for our players to be those complete players they need to be able to defend as well as attack.

It's a whole lot easier to release the hounds when they've been locked up than it is to get them back to defend the kennel when they've spent the first years of their lives pissing on any lamp post they find with gay abandon.

Our best and worst are so far apart it gives me enormous hope. We've all seen how we can play when we switch on and it's that much better than anything Essendon*'s capable of (even with their older core). Our games against the Dogs, Saints, Pies and Lions are a long way better than anything Essendon*'s served up this year.

They're shit.

Don't forget it.

Its not about the wins or losses.

We've managed to win 8 games and haven't played good football. We haven't strung 4 quarters together. I see no direction, i see no game plan, no system but have managed 8 wins the same as you guys.

*snip* as per rule 2.1 – You're new here, and an opposition supporter so it might pay for you to read the rules of posting on TC as posted above. Thanks...

melvey, surely the coaching staff have a plan and vision for their side, ratten would not have been picked for the job if he didnt, the problem is AGAIN your best players can handle it but the rest are not good enough to execute it (yet)

They might be. But they deserve a  for being where they are.

And it sux0rs that they smashed us a few weeks back. It sux0rs even more that they have beaten us twice this year, especially as we wasted so many scoring opportunities in the first effort.

But, I have to say I reckon Melvey is right. We have the same number of wins as the Bombers and are not playing as consistently as a team or as effectively.

Bombers might be winning the battle, but I reckon we're in with a fair charnce of winning the war—which is #17.

melvey, it seems you are blaming ratten for the players lack of execution, a lot of the bomber supporters have similar doubts over matty knights in regards to gameplan but theres nothing we can do other than trust the clubs choice of each coaches vision. when the time comes to review ( Knights next year, not sure about ratten) if its not working they will be given the flick

I don't get it. Essendon* have won a flag before us. Suppose it was nine years ago though which kind of puts us on level pegging. Been a long time between drinks for both clubs. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I reckon the last two pages might be enough...

St Kilda winning a flag bothers me much more than the Bombers...I just love St Kilda's history so much the way it is right now, it would be awful if it was to ever change.

Dons record against sides higher than them on the ladder -

3-6

Excluding Carlton games 1-6

Carlton's record

4-2

Quite simply their game plan can not hold up under real pressure and will NOT win them a flag,
