Seriously, you guys have to be kidding. The facts are you guys have a good list up to about player 10, from there you fall away dramatically and are nowhere near the premiership you think you are. The bombers have had an unbelievable amount of injuries for the last 3 years and this year in particular and we still managed to beat you early on with a lot of our best side missing, you guys have a soft draw as opposed to ours and thats why you are on equal wins. You say we rely on our older players to win games, but the fact is most them have missed big chunks of the season. The fact the you are all so preoccupied with us shows that you know we are further advanced than you, even with all your number 1 draft picks. And that fact drives you all crazy
Read the Bombers thread in the AFL thread. Allot of people on her have egg on there faces
As much as i hate the Bombers (best rivalry in the AFL) my hat goes off to your coach in how he has constructed the resurgence of your club and how he has got the confidence up amongst the playing group.
believe it or not but you guys have some talented kids on your list. You have around 15-16 players currently on your list that were picked between 2 and 25 in the national draft, it goes unnoticed because none of those were number 1.
But i say this, you guys are playing good team football and have 8 wins. We have played terrible football and are on the same amount of wins. It hasn't clicked for us as it has with you guys.
Melvey, I've stood up for you once or twice in the past when you were vaguely on the right side of delusional but this Bombers fetish ain't doing you any good whatsoever.
They're shit.
We've got a long way to go before we're a regular top 4 contender but they're so far behind us it's not funny.
They have a handful of good kids and a core of older players who are fading fast. And I don't care where they were picked in the draft.
They're the Richmond of the next 10 years. In fact they may be dreaming of 9th place by then.
If you're teaching someone something you start with the basics and work from there. The idea that you give the players confidence by letting them run free and seeing what happens is so short-sighted it's ridiculous. It's not sustainable and they're going to get smashed over the long term if they stick with it. I want complete players who can switch modes when necessary and for our players to be those complete players they need to be able to defend as well as attack.
It's a whole lot easier to release the hounds when they've been locked up than it is to get them back to defend the kennel when they've spent the first years of their lives pissing on any lamp post they find with gay abandon.
Our best and worst are so far apart it gives me enormous hope. We've all seen how we can play when we switch on and it's that much better than anything Essendon*'s capable of (even with their older core). Our games against the Dogs, Saints, Pies and Lions are a long way better than anything Essendon*'s served up this year.
They're shit.
Don't forget it.
