IMO in this scenario it's plausible that we'll have a succession plan arrangement.

I've seen it mentioned that Longmire would want 5+ years.
This I feel is only likely (and justified) if we had continued the early season trajectory and were looking at another rebuild which would need time to bear fruit. If an experienced coach goes to Essendon** they'll want and get that long.
With our list now looking more competitive, I suggest it's quite reasonable to offer Longmire a 2-3 year arrangement to see what he can do whilst Cripps is still going before handing over to Josh Fraser.
This then also solves the issue of Josh feeling not fully ready because he gets to learn from one of the best.

With all due respect, I want to beat this idea to death, set it on fire and urinate on the ashes.

That’s about the correct amount of respect.

Five grand finals.

One win.

2024: 60 point loss

2016: 22 point loss

2012: 10 point win

The amount of shit dumped on Voss for not being able to work a viable Plan B mid game and are we seriously considering a coach who has lost four grand finals on the trot by an average of 56.5 points?

And let’s not forget he was coaching a club with AFL sponsored “help”.

The guy is Malthouse on crack.

If we go down that path we are truly [REDACTED].

A fair summary, I think.

To get a previous premiership coach and hope they will get you one is pretty rare air- There are not many that do it at 2nd club - I dont know the numbers of ex premiership coaches that have moved from one club to another but the numbers that have been successful at 2nd club is only 8 - Malthouse - Matthews - Jeans - Parkin - Barassi-Hughes - Bently and Worrall

Interestingly enough 4 of the 8 have been at Carlton and Malthouse failed at his 3rd club

Anyone who wants concessions before they start is a big NO!

Longmire gets 5 years and then Fraser takes over? No thanks. Spells trouble to me.

If Josh isnt ready he isnt ready. Move on, or apply for the job.

I don't think Josh Fraser has engineered his own game plan. He is tweaking the Voss plan.
Is he adaptable? Does he see the future evolution of the game? I think Fraser does still have a lot to learn.

I've met Longmire a few times. Great guy. great memory. Much loved.
But he comes on our terms. He has to sell his IP to us, not the other way around.
Our club is set for success with the right coach and a 2-3 gaps filled, plus added cheap depth.

Actually Malthouse failed at his first and fourth clubs.

Won flags at his second and third.

No I'm saying we offer Longmire a 2-3 year deal with a handover thereafter.

Yeah, I get that, but its the other bits re Longmire's terms I couldnt stomach. I call it buying time.

I guess we have to wait and see at the end of this year (and maybe the new coach may be given some insight ) before we lock in our expectations from the 2027 List and beyond:

Walker, plus the other 3 second round draftees, in this last uncompromised draft, the Free Agent  and the talent we trade in.

If we just go for Longmire as a standard appointment there's no way he's coming with less than 4 or 5 years.
And they'll be at the top of the pay scale too.
If we want shorter and cheaper it will need to be a first time coach

Based on history a premiership coach has no better chance of winning a premiership at a new club than a first time coach. If the premiership coach comes with restrictions (like " there's no way he's coming with less than 4 or 5 years. And they'll be at the top of the pay scale too.") then they eliminate themselves from contention.
