Although, in the eyes of the supporters, there was diappointment in only playing one final, overall there was some significant gains this year. We still have many areas in which we must improve, let's give the club a chance to prove itself next year.
The coaches had all preseason to work on simple kickout scenarios and an effective multi-pronged forward structure.
Most supporters could see we failed in those particular areas of play and perhaps in some other areas.
This is the elite level of football where failure in basic areas of coaching shouldn't be tolerated.
Are we wasting valuable time persisting with incompetent coaching personnel??
We were never going to win the flag last year so ladder position was basically irrelevant.
What was/is relevant is the style of footy we play and what it produces.
There are varied opinions on what should happen with the coaching panel. Montgomery has been there for two years. One year as forward coach and one as backline. Lappin one year as forward. Riley as Ratts right hand man. I personally wouldnt give Lappin the flick after one year in a job that many have tried and many have failed, that being trying to get a multipronged forward line with fev in it. I would like to see Lappin have a year with a blank canvas. 2010 is it. Riley looks like he has a good working relationship with Ratts so i am happy to see that continue. Montgomery to me would be the one to move on but i dont know much about his imput. I assume it is what they want if he is not moved on.
The kick out thing i agree needs to be sorted out. Its not the easiest game. Watch the grand final last season and you could see both teams really struggling with it. I thought ours improved as the season went on but plenty of room for more improvement. Binging Capuano on sound like a smart move. His coaching brought out loads of improvement in out rucks. He surely has what it takes to be a full time assistant.
I am a big fan of holding a team together (unless impossible like Fev) and working as one to achieve the same goal so i think a bit of a solid coaching panel that doesnt chop and change too much suits me.
Go Blues !
