Let's say that a successful 2010 relies upon:

20% TALENT

20% INJURIES

10% GOOD FORTUNE

20% COACHING/DEVELOPMENT

20% TEAM SPIRIT

10% BALANCE AND EVENNESS OF CONTRIBUTION

Injuries and luck, impossible to predict. So why bother?

Talent, well we've lost a rare talent, no question. But was this talent as good for the team as some think, or was it more an entertaining cameo?

Coaching and development, hopefully our coaching group continues to improve. And that our development people can bring out the best in the likes of Yarran and all our other U23yo players.

Team Spirit, perhaps not having Fevola around taking the piss in team meetings and playing the individual at almost every opportunity means we have a more cohesive approach amongst the playing group?

Balance, you'd think that the inclusion of McLean and the continuing maturation of Joseph gives our midfield a better balance to it... and perhaps a more balanced approach to our F50 targets helps too. Will the hopeful inclusion of Warnock and Waite free up others to give us greater options at both ends of the ground?

I guess what I'm saying is that I have NFI how we'll go, and I don't think anyone else does either

FWIW, I don't think we'll miss Fev much at all. F50 entries win games, and it's up to the coaches to structure a forward setup that will take advantage of what will most likely be an INCREASE in F50 entries next season. With Kruezer, Waite, Yarran, Betts, Garlett, Henderson and perhaps Walker... not to mention goalkicking mids, I think they have the players at their disposal to do this.

StKilda and Geelong in the last two years lost Grand Finals after having more F50 entries than their opposition. Quality F50 entries win games and not necessarily quantity.

I like the fact that now without Fev we are being written off. A lot are saying we wont make the 8 and I've even heard some suggest we will be bottom 4!
I think that will spur the Blues on in 2010. They will want to prove that they are not a 'one man' team and also they will have a point to prove in the first 3 weeks when Judd is not playing.
No doubt there will be times during the year when the forward line looks 'thin' and we will all be lamenting the fact that Fev isnt there. But I think with some luck in regards to injuries, we will be top 8 for sure. I expect us to go 1 better than last season - win a final and make it through to week 2.
I still think that teams like Saints, Cats, Bulldogs and Crows are a year or 2 ahead of us (regardless of whether we had Fev or not) so I dont see us winning a flag in the next 2 years. But with improvement on the field and in the coaches box I think we can be genuine premiership threats in 2012.

No... You might have to read it again. "won't miss fev MUCH at all." which means I think we'll miss him but to nowhere near the extent some may think. FF is the most overrated position in the modern game.

Apologies for being a little simplistic, but I think it would be reasonable to expect that our young guns could all improve at least 10-15% this year? We all know them - Kreuze, Gibbs (Brownlow?), Murph, Yarran, Garlett, Tex (a real pre-season), Robbo, Joseph, Hammer, Warnock (on the park) etc.

Let's give Waitey and Jamo more than half the season, too.

A fitter McLean will help, plus his positive effect for Juddy at the stoppages.

OK, say we lose 10% to 15% without Fev.

Puts us about the same as 2009, I would argue. We finished 7th last year, so I'm expecting about 5-8 this year, top 4 not beyond the realms if Hendo a little more advanced than what we thought.

your streaming in and you deliver a lass out pass that goes over the leading forwards head, who turns and chases it. Feelings se;lf-admonished but not publicly, the said player gets on with it and next time that player may just hit the chest of said forward.

Its all about the intangibles.

I think, given the intangibles, we will be a better side next year.

And I'm all for greener grass and plonking hopes like dew on all the new flowers in the side. Thing about hope is that is does spring eternal!

Hmmm, i don't think we'll make the finals to be honest.

Looking forward to seeing Henderson get a go in his favourite position and am eager to see what the coaching staff come up with in terms of a plan without Fevola. But i think it's a tough ask to make the finals.

Hi, this is my first post, but as a lifelong carlton supporter and member, never under estimate the carlton football club and I actually believe we will improve in most key areas in 2010 (contested possessons/inside 50s/goal assists, team goal kickers and team scores without fevola)

I believe in adversity comes strength and opportunity, blokes like Yarran, kreuzer, Waite (maybe later in the year) and others who now see the opportunity to become a permanent forward and I would hope and believe they will take it with both hands and will become central to our forward line in 2010 that was previously so fevola reliant and dominated to the point of being rediculous.

The mindset of the players now has changed without fevola for the better and with that we will get a more even, consistent and I believe a better football team in 2010. I am still confident with any luck with injuries and natural improvement of the younger players, we will still make the 8 in 2010

Go Blues

WIth Fevola gone is opens up alot of options in our forward line for waite,Kruz, henderson (give him a year or so his still only 19) he was pick 8 in 2007 same yr Kruz wen no.1 and maybe even O'haplin he played a couple of good games those are our possible talls nxt yr n we should have yarrn n garlett should play alot more footy nxt yr with eddie but if eddies not careful he could end up in da VFL in 2009 he started well with 30 goals after 12 games then he droped off a bit but he should b alrite should get fitter coz i love it wen he gets a run on da ball but i will miss fevola one of carlton best forwards but stuffed up to many times he had plenty of warnings but we will benefit from henderson n we'll see what we do wit pick 12 hopefully tall key defender i reckon we need. Our midfield is perfect i reckon juddy, murphy, gibbs, simpson( who is underated),mclean, and if A. Joseph one of the best taggers in the AFL in his 1st season if he can hurt teams more if he got the ball more n use it but a great shut down player if warnock lives up to expections hammer will b a good bak up ruckman n they all most prob rotate though the foward line with Kruz goin in sometimes

I'm sure Fev is looking for supporters.
Follow him to Brisbane.
We'll get over your loss eventually.

I agree, if you think the football club is at fault for the fevola situation, tear up your memberships, @#$%&! off and go support richmond.
