I understand the merchandising and all that.
But we already have the best jumper. Let's maintain some tradition.
Keep changing the jumper every week and we lose what it represents.
If I supported a half arsed side with an average history and they wore a crap jumper then fine, change it to make a few dollars.
We Are The Navy Blues, not the f@#king Lilly Whites.
Carrots was quoted as saying that he was proud to pull on the Navy Blue jumper. Well of corse he was. Look who's worn that jumper before him. No other club has a list of players like we've had and they all wore the Navy Blue.
I will be in the minority in this debate and I've read nothing thus far to change my view.
I'd rather buy my kids a second Navy Blue jumper than a new white one.
Cause while our side holds up the ladder I'm trying to remind them that once we were great and we will be again. When the kids look through old pictures or tapes the players have OUR jumper on, not some marketing tool.
Regards Pedro.

Who said anything about getting rid of the current guernsey?

The navy blue with white monogram should and probably always remain our traditional No.1 strip. But with all the competition between clubs for members/sponsors we must be seen to be progressive and futuristic so we can appeal to new supporters to get on board.

Maximizing revenue and portraying a progressive, vibrant, new age club, as well as protecting it's proud history , is what the board should be trying to do and introducing an alternative strip for away games should be part of that.

The alternate top would only be worn 2 or 3 times a year.

I'm all for the home and away strip. Although Shag, I'd probably replace the white with grey... we've all seen Freo's experiment with white.

Budzy I know nobody suggested getting rid of the traditional jumper, my apologies if that's what I infered.
I don't see an alternate away jumper as being progressive either. It's more like jumping on the bandwagon with the Roos, Dogs, Hawks and any other club that sold their proud history for a few more dollars. I don't begrudge them for doing it either.
Personally I hope we don't go down that path.
Regards Pedro.

And this was the exact same thing I thought, as well... We've already sort of gone grey by having that for the supporter's shirts - makes sense that it should be the colour we use if we change.

I'd hardly call introducing an alternate guernsey "selling our proud history", but nevertheless you're entitled to your view.

Couldn't the club constitution be changed to allow a blue monogram?

But that's just the point KK... it is broke, and with the way the game is played these days. The jumpers are not sacred - they ceased to be so when they plastered sponsors logos all over them.

Anything that can make the game easier to watch, and easier to market, has to be looked at.

The Carlton v St Kilda game was only easy to differentiate because we were the ones without the ball. It was great to see Melbourne using their brains against us at Princes Park earlier in the year and playing in red. We should do exactly the same and expose the bullshit reasons given by Collingwood and Essendon* as fraud.

"But it's in the constitution!"

Stiff shit. Take your constitution to the VFL. The AFL need to grow a pair of bollocks and force this on clubs. Bloody ridiculous.

Am I allowed to vote? Oh well, too bad, I already did!

I voted no. You guys have the best jumper in the league, and being the traditionalist I am, I'd hate to see it change. I understand the money/merchandising aspect, but I truly believe some things shouldn't be brought.

I don't care about the money or marketing I'm just sick of the jumper clashes with Melbourne. There has been incidents over the years of players getting mixed up and handballing straight to their opponent. The madness has to end.

I reckon if the club decide to make a radical decision such as going with an away strip, they should create a radical away jumper.
I say go with white and gold with navy blue monogram, something similar to the St Louis Rams NFL teams away strip. IMO, the best looking uniform in the NFL. Anyone able to produce a Carlon lookalike strip?

Has massive marketability which apart from avaoiding jumper clashes is the main reason for going with an alternative strip.

I like the St Louis Rams strip too lucablue. I especially like the gold colour added in. Gold reakes of class... silver is, well, second-class. The only problem about this strip though is that most of our players don't wear sleeves.

... And that is post 200. Woohoo! I'm a slow mover, but an avid reader. ;)

Do you think the players would like wearing gold shorts?

If they make them out of the right material, it could be instrumental in capturing part of the "pink market".... :P
