If he's doing all that for them why are they being so negative?

He's stimulating their negativity. Negative people get off on their negativity, its what makes them tick.* The glass half empties on this site aren't happy unless they've got something to be unhappy about. It's just human nature.**

* Hope this answers your question Budzy.

** Ask donstuie, he knows all about this.

But still playing awful football, did you see his last quarter against Geelong? Was the one weak link in our side. Anyway, I'm not allowed to talk about him, so I'll leave it at that (but nice try anyway). Try fishing down at Port Ferry, I heard that they're biting a lot down there.

See that's the problem Nevin, you are referring to issues he's had in the developing years of his career. Those issues are imprinted in your brain and do not allow you to see the positives in JR's game. All players make errors but because you were used to JR making those errors in the past, as soon as he makes one or two that's what you remember. Since Ratts took over he has made steady improvement and after a stint in the Ants this year, has come back bigger and better than ever. He's easily been in our best in every game bar the Pies one (he certainly wasn't our worst that night) and is coming along quite nicely. You do realise he hasn't played 50 games yet and that it takes most players 80-100 games to get anywhere near their peak performance don't you?
I think the fact that you can't actually point out where and when he's been playing poorly this year and the fact that you keep referring to his past robs your post of any credibility personally.

Do YOU realise that if he is your favorite player than you should know how many games he has played........................66 buddy

credibility hey

Forget the past; it's in the past.

In 2009 Russell has come of age.

Every player makes a mistake or two or could have done something better in every game and Russell is no different.

But in 2009, this kid has what it takes in the modern game. We know his strength is good at the contest, but imo what sets him apart from many and why he is a fixture in the 22 is his ability to run fast and long. He is also versatile.

He presents but doesn't always get the receive when he should; that's footy.

If he's good now, he's only going to get better, because in 2009 he found his feet and his confidence.

Look out for this guy to take a further step and the next step after that. By the time he's 25 he will have 5 years ahead of him, but as a seasoned campaigner with a few tricks he picked up on the ride.

Nothing to be negative about, it's blue skies for Jordy the footballer.

As I posted a few years back (before he lost me for a while in 2008): The world is his oyster.

Unleash him today against his fellow South Australians Ratts, just like we use to with Kerna and Bradley.

Whoops.....my bad, but does nothing to my opinion in terms of losing credibility, 66 games is still less than 80-100 AND if anything he's proved my point with games 50-66.

Just wondering Deano, what is your opinion of JR now? You were a big detractor before, how about giving us your opinion of him.

I still have some doubts but last week i was as rapted as any because if he can step up and play that level of footy then it can only put us in good stead for the future and maybe he may have found his niche finally as a defender.

I think last week showed that when he plays with the whole field ahead then he can make some good decisions wheras in the past when he played as the lead up half forward he seemed to panic and have what i called the hot potatoe syndrome.

The big question is HB Can he back it up today??????

Let's hope so

I think his only bad game since he got back in the side was against the Pies (he wasn't Han Solo and wasn't our worst). Every other game has been awesome IMO with the stand outs being against Freo and Geelong. I'm starting to look forward to watching him play more and more with every week that goes by.......fingers crossed I didn't just jinx him!! :donk:

They wouldn't (one hopes) let Quayle inteview a player about a physical injury they were carrying, because that players injury would be targetted in subsquent games. But apparently its fine to have Russell's mental insecurities plastered all over the Age. If I was an opposition coach and I read that I'd tell my players to get into Russell every time he makes even the slightest of errors.

I say, not for the first time this season, that whoever is in charge of media relations at our club needs to be looked at. I know media is part of football. But it seems to me that, even within our scope to control it, our club has no concept about what is good media and what is not.

On the other hand a decision may have been taken with his sports psychologist's assistance that having a bit of press and getting all this stuff out in the open might give the kid a lift.

It's not like it's any great news to anyone that he's had confidence issues. Any opposition coach who couldn't work that one out isn't going to last too long.

I think he answered your question very positively today Deano :smoking:

Was very good IMHO and gave us a lot of drive out of defence.

Well done Jordy

Another solid game from JR. Hopefully he's finally found his niche running off the dangerous medium forwards, something we've been lacking of late. Perhaps he's finally found his home on the field.

Another good game from JR, looking much more confident with the ball. Cannot recall a single clanger

Started off a number of runs out the of the back half where he had made himself a good option further up the field with some great gut running.
