Hangonhangon...

Russell was finally dropped.

And has he come back better for it?

ABSOLUTELY!

Best game in the navy blue last night for mine. Looked assured, kicked well, looked strong, and Johnson injured is still >>> lots of other players at full strength.

Well played Jordan.

But when will some of you get it out of your head that a large proportion of the 'knockers' were saying Jordan was playing crap and needed to be dropped - which the MC did nothing about for weeks.

Finally, he got dropped, worked on his game, and got promoted.

He's a much better player for it. THE 'KNOCKERS' were right! (ahhhhhhh. knockers)

The MC have managed him well... eventually. IMO they were just too slow to act and he hadn't got that feeling that his position was under threat, turning in shit performances and retaining his spot week after week.

Well done JR, keep improving.

So that's the only time he's been dropped

I think he knows he's got a coach that believes in him, plus his age, his experience and also the fact he feels comfortable.

I expect the usual knoobs to be onto him again when he has a game that doesn't go his way, all because you think he should be a star because he was pick 9  Its pathetic really.

Have been a big critic of JR's in the past but had one of his best games last night and has been a lot better this year. As JR admitted he's played quite a few games he probably didn't deserve, but going on current form he is definetely in our best side...

Very good game last night so thumbs up!

Well said. Most of the 'knockers' (myself included) only wished for Jordan to get a reality check, to be sent a message that he wasn't going to be carried if he was playing poorly and that there were consequences for not performing, as there should be for everyone. JR has even said himself that getting dropped was a massive motivation to improve, and that he was lucky to get many of those games he did get. So quite right, if the 'knockers' wanted to be self-indulgant they'd have every right to say "I told you so". We're seeing this with Stevo too, a new sense of purpose. Dropping these guys are just the sorts of tough decisions a strong leader should be making, and what we've been screaming for Ratts to do.

Some of the contested marking in the backline... When a Blues player bobbed up with the ball I thought to myself 'Well done, Thornton...' But no, wait, it was RUSSELL. Yes. RUSSELL. Who knew?

great to see stevie j have an absolute shocker.

this man is an absolute myth. his lairish, front running style of footy may work when his team is on top, but as seen last night this guy is shithouse when the pressure is on and his team needs a lift.

I said it after i watched with incredulity as he wont the norm smith in 2007, this guy is an ordinary footballer whose reputation has been propelled by the fact he's been playing in a great side.

if one of our guys made the sort of mistakes he consistently does you'd see for yourself just how much this guy has deceived everyone. shocking kicks, handballs that dont go anywhere, ridiculous play that youd be chastised for in the schoolyard...

the best thing, for me anyway, is that we'll begin to see more and more of this as his geelong side settles into a slow decline starting soon.

I would have thought second guessing negativity was pathetic. Anyway - well done JR!

Its all very well to say that the "knockers" were right because he appears to have come back better after he was dropped but many of these knockers didnt just want him dropped they stated categorically that was not and never would be "up to it"

Spot on.....which makes it all the more bemusing that they're taking the credit for his improved performance claiming he just needed to be dropped rather than traded or delisted. If I remember correctly, one of the main arguments was that he had been given plenty of chances and enough was enough, if he hadn't made it by now he never would.

Love your work JR, those of us that always believed in you know that there's a 5hitload more to come!!

Was really impressed with his aggression at the body in the marking contests. Haven't really seen that before from Russell.

I think his disposal and pace out of defence is a real plus. Can only help with our ability to rebound when we've got players like Armfield, Joseph and Walker coming out of there. Would like to see him get a decent run in this position, given he performed so well on Friday. Interesting that he's finally getting a go back in the position he largely played in during the Under 18 carnival the year he got drafted.
