Great post FF - give the guy a break - football is all about taking calculated risks - all the best sides do it - Im backing this guy and those who brought him to the club

Lets have some compassion this guy has just had someone close to him die - SOME things are more important than football

Josh

Any inferences you draw of me thinking you as racist are yours alone. I do not consider that non-understanding of a certain culture is racism per se. I merely consider it a poor subject to bring up at a time that is difficult for him and his family. If you believe that I was/am treading a fine line, then I believe that your post was equally treading a fine line. For me to reply in such a way, it goes without saying, betrays my disappointment and disapproval.

Perhaps a subject like this hits closer to me at this time because my family is undergoing similar bereavement. Does the fact that I have to travel for a funeral sometime in the next week mean that my commitment to my job is poor?

At a time like this, your bringing up the subject when this has occurred certainly raises eyebrows. My apologies if you have raised it before, but I do question your judgment as to the timing of broaching the subject of Yarran's apparent lack of application.

It appeared from your first couple of posts that no consideration was made as to Aboriginal culture and that a blanket "doesn't try"/"Ezra Bray" applied. Certainly, it appeared to be implied that his current behaviour was linked to a wider trend. If that is not the implication drawn, then my apologies. However, if the implication was meant to be drawn, then I stand by my comments that it shows a lack of understanding of behaviour or a certain amount of decency I expected from you. It is, as mentioned earlier, not an accusation of racism but a strong disapproval at your remarks and subsequent attempts at justification.

I agree with you in that most subjects should be discussed openly, particularly as it pertains to players, but only at reasonable and appropriate times. I would have thought it decent to at least wait until he had come back from leave before discussing the topic.

I am of the belief that discussions re Yarran and his application should be deferred until he has returned from his leave.

If my post seemed too ad hominem to you Josh, then my apologies are proferred. I had just come to expect a higher level of discretion from you.

Kind regards
C

Agree with you Josh, Clem is being pretty nasty here - poor form on his part and quite distasteful.

And might I ask whether you think that whether questioning his committment on the fact that he has a funeral he feels he should attend is also poor form and quite distasteful?

The reason for my reply is because of the fact that I believe the Josh has overstepped the line with those comments.

For the avoidance of any doubt, the reason for my use of the example if Yarran was Jewish was because Josh is from that background and the example would be something he would identify with. In other words, if a person attacked Josh's lack of committment to something because it was on Saturday when he is observing the Sabbath, then I think that would be inappropriate and insensitive just as it is here with a certain lack of sensitivity on Josh's part for the expected family requirements of indigenous family members to attend funerals. I could easily have used the example of a Christian who didn't want to play on Sunday or anyone with a cultural belief or any religious belief that could possibly imply a certain lack of committment. It is certainly not meant to target Jewish people, not in the slightest. I hold the same standard for all - questioning committment to a secular cause, particularly work related, on the basis of a certain cultural or religious belief is insensitive, disappointing and not something I condone, hence my admittedly strongly-worded reply.

This thread is being locked as this discussion can be had in the Yarran - Like a Fine Wine thread.
