Show a bit of respect to young yarren will you people...a loss of a family member is always going to be more important then sport or work...

yarren needs to be with his family at this piont of time and not with the Carlton football club..we need to give him his time to mourn the loss of his uncle and when he returns he can then focus back on the footy....

look i commend the doggies polayer playing on saturday after his father passed away the day before the game but he played in respect for his father and not for the club and it was his fathers wish for that...

some of you should be ashamed at some of the posts you are putting on here and if yarren returns from W.A i hope you all are ready to apologise to the young lad.. as some of you have shown no resect to someone who has just lost a family member...

The things is people you can miss a game of footy and play the following week but when some close passes away you can not see them a week later

some of you should think before opening ya traps

No ones expecting that.

We expected a number 6 draft pick not to be out done a player picked in the rookie draft.

Well maybe you need to realign your expectations then.

you can talk all you want about giving him time etc etc etc, but the simple fact is that despite his obvious talent, there were concerns about his attitude and desire when he was drafted. regardless of where these concerns came from, they were there none the less. Rich was widely regarded as a safe pick as was ziebell. We took the gamble. time will tell whether the gamble will pay off, but as it stands after 18 rounds of his first season, nothing has changed from prior to his drafting. he is still a gamble. ziebell and rich have turned out to be very sound picks that we ignored. And the question marks over attitude and desire are ever growing. I know I'd feel a lot more comfortable with either of the other two boys on our list, no matter how exciting yarran's cameo against the swans was.

Absolute cop out for some of you to revert to cheap political point scoring on an issue such as this..

Yarran, as an 18 year old, has not worked anywhere near hard enough on or off the track to be the best footballer he has to be. That should be the standard of all players drafted, and I am quite bemused that some on here think that different standards should apply for different draftees.

The stakes are huge with Yarran- potentially Premiership defining.. all Im saying is that we really dont want to have [REDACTED] this up.

We surprised a 17 yr old kid who is obviously close to his mum and family and said "here boy, come with us"..

So we gave him a couple of weeks and then shipped him off to melbourne.

He did not choose to be selected by Carlton.

He did not choose to be selected at pick 6.

He's a kid who is having to cope with alot of change, he's had a death in the family...

Do you think we can turn a switch on that makes him fall in love with the place?...that makes him automatically put himself and his family to the back of the queue and concentrate entirely on everything football?

I'm not comfortable with what is being said about him......why paint family commitment and culture as a negative thing just because you're a frustrated footy fan?

To question a kid of 18 who's obviously faced a truck load of adversity is really bad judgement IMO.

It's a ride for both the club and the Yarran family...we need to nurture this relationship and hopefully it will grow into a fine partnership.

Give things some time.......

How dare you all judge Yarran? You have no rights to push on your selfish beliefs on to other people. We are all different and handle change in a different way. His uncle just past away, give the guy a break!

As for his performance, remember young ablett in his first couple of years ... he was not that flash...very average play from memory.

Memory status of several here on TC =

Plus even the assorted short term versions we see on display are very selective in output.

Just for clarity, who are you calling a duck, Russell or Yarram (or Cyril)?

..this is deviating a little from the actual thread topic, but can the [shall we say] pro-Yaz group stop implying that those concerned about the wisdom of drafting him may be racist.. ..it's a cop out to just imply someone's racist cos they don't agree with your view regarding a player who's also in a minority.. ..forget skin colours, by all accounts so far alot of Yaz's strengths [skill, creativity, both sides of body etc] very much resemble Hoops.. ..alot of his flaws also resemble hoops.. ..why is one player allowed to be criticised and another not..?.. [free of any racism implications]

..personally for me, what it all comes down to is timeline.. ..a top ten pick for a non-kpp that takes a few years to come on, when your current list is in the state ours is,, isn't a good drafting move.. ..simple as that..

Haselby was taken at number 2 in the 99 draft and won the Rising Star by a mile after having the best first season by anyone not named Joel Selwood in recent years. Freo would have been delighted with their selection at the time. Looking back now though I'm sure they would have taken Pavlich who they took at 4 with their first pick and anyone of Corey(8), Glass(11), R Murphy(13), Chapman(31), Giansiracusa(32), L Davis(34), Ling(38), Gilbee(43), Enright(47) or Ryan O'Keefe(56) with their other top pick. I don't know what the future holds for Yarran but don't judge the kid after 1 year, Leon Davis only this year became an elite player and it took him nearly the whole decade.

I'd put to you that Ziebell's body which was already held together by elastoplast at U18's was as big a risk as Yarran's so-called "attitude and desire". Fact is nobody on here who is questioning his attitude has spoken to the kid in person. The human psyche is a complex creature, it may even be possible that we are mistaking a personality trait like introversion with "attitude and desire"??

Haselby has had injury issues since his junior years...

Gian has barely come good, Leon only just, Ling was a tub of lard when he went to Geelong, Gilbee took forever. Unbelievably short-sighted comparison.

No wonder he can't get out of the place quick enough.
Our next premiership is potentially riding on an 18 year old aboriginal boy who is 4,000 kms from home, his father is in jail and his mother works in a mine.

As I said all those players have had better careers than Haselby. Just pointing out that although Rich has been the outstanding rookie this year a lot can change over the next 10.

..our next premiership rides on our drafting.. ..if a player picked takes as long to come good as some are suggesting [players named include l.davis, gian, gilbee, ling etc], then by my estimation we have to wait a half dozen years before we get good, consistent footy.. ..for a top ten pick nowadays, that's taking too long [unless kid is kpp].. ..for a list like ours, it's even more important that our choices come on sooner rather than later.. ..as i've said a few times, i just don't think our list currently has the luxury of waiting and slowly developing a kid [non-kpp] over 3+ years,, especially when other kids were available that also addressed problems in our list..

..i think last year everyone was pulling their hair out regarding our problems up fwd [and they were right to pull their hair out].. ..unfortunately, we're yet to discover how much this problem is list management, and how much is crappy fwd coaching.. ..we also have a v.big problem in our midfield.. ..we do not have as much top end talent as some ppl think, and we lack a genuine bonafide in and under player of a-grade talent.. ..juddles struggled last year, and got smashed in the clearances [physically wise, sure he racked up great clearance and CP stats, but he's getting pulverised as he does it].. ..a year later, going into finals and he's still got bugger all support, and it seems it's beginning to physically take it's toll.. ..so far, our 1st rnd drafting has addressed neither of these problem areas.. ..yes, it's still v.early days but there's been v.little positive signs to suggest that we picked wisely.. ..meanwhile, our superstar recruit and captain is playing up fwd to protect him, and help the fwd structure.. ..and next year i can't see much help either cos we drafted a kid so young that he's a year behind his peers in some ways, and we might not even get a top ten pick this year the way we're going..

Technically she works in a mining town... let's not go all Dickens on the kid's life story.

Is he back yet?

Also didnt he play footy with young Garlett and he has a lifelong mate that Colliwood drafted this year-young Blight. It's not like his totally alone or isolated. If it doesnt work out perhaps we can get Kennedy back.

Its not like a first rounder hasnt worked out before-Vance,Edgar,Livingston, Sporn, etc
