Not to mention JR

Fevola was on his game last night..... no one would have gotten near him... not even the ghost of Trevor Barker

Must have been the same idiots on TV today apologising for Brown's unusual case of inaccuracy that cost Brisbane the game also.

But when Fevola has the yips in front of goal its disgraceful that a player being paid $500,000+ cant kick straight in front of goal.

When Brown missed his 3rd, one of their 'fans' told him he'd better be taking a $100 000 pay cut next year....... so at least they're consistent..... :screwy:

seems that the footy media are preoccupied with downplaying Carlton's win last night. Brian Taylor has twice today mentioned how impressed he was with Brisbane last night and that Carlton have only won one more game then at the same time last year !

PROS:

Joseph ... continues to impress by taking another scalp
Browne ... again showing postive glimpses
Hammer ... making small gains as he gathers up consecutive games
Bower ... did a number of roles and did them well
Armfield ... got to hand it to him. he is not scared to take a risk
Gibbs ... really put his head over the ball
Fev ... must like seeing Wayne Brittain in the opposition coaches box
Judd ... for being Judd

CONS:

We have alot of work to do off the ball if we are ever do be a serious contender. Grigg was the big offender.
People knocking Jamison about going to ground ... more often than not he is trying to spoil off someone on the lead ... he has to lunge to reach for the spoil ... leading forwards are instructed to mark and then roll forward to make it more diffiucult for the defender.
Is it just me or is Nick Stevens just "cruising" along and going along for the ride while the likes of Judd busts his gut. Maybe I am wrong but I think his lack of gut busting running holds him back from the eilte.

Pros:

Real leadership from senior players in Simmo and Carrazzo in kicking goals at important times. And Judd of course.
We seemed to get a win in the coaches box. For the majority of the game it seemed to be played on our terms, rather than the oppositions. We played fairly 'ugly' and still controlled the game. Well done, MC.
Nice to be building up a little bit of the 'wood' over Brisbane. Now if only we can break the 'wood' that Adelaide, Sydney, St Kilda and Essendon* have over us ...
Our rucks again.
Browne's toughness.
We got a good run with the umps for the first time since the Richmond game. Even Fev got some goals from free kicks.
Just a very important win.
Sounded like good crowd support on the tele for us.

Cons:

We play St Kilda next week.
Hard to believe Fev will get a decent run with the umps again for another 12 week.

Bigger-bodied, "bully" teams like Brisbane can't just push and shove our guys around anymore. Our guys respond, and respond in numbers, and retaliate for each other.

For me that's a great sign of a fantastic team effort.

Pros- We outclassed a team most would consider a finals contender and we did it at their home ground. We were able to hold out a final quarter surge from the Lions and that is what good sides have to do. We've lost a few by only a kick or two so far this season and the team needed to prove they can handle the pressure. Fev was in killer form and Judd led like the champion he is. Also liked games from Simmo, Browne and Santy.

Cons- Maybe it's because I'm up in SE Qld but the whinging and moaning and excuses from the Banana Bitches is getting boring. They just can't cope.

I don't think that comparing Stevens with Judd is fair.
You have to accept that they are different and Judd is the best in the land.
Furthermore Stevens will never get close to Judd's all round game, but Stevens does have strengths which are valuable to the team.
Stevens' first 3 possessions in the first 5 minutes spelled for a disastrous night, but I thought he did well after that.

I have also noticed that Stevens has been throwing his body into the contest over the last 3 weeks.
There's something else about Stevens and that is his endurance. Until the kids develop theres Stevens will remain ahead of them and a fixed item in the first 22.

Pros-

Army - continues to attack 50-50 ball believing in himself - and wins!

Joseph - continually made great decisions to come off his tag and bust a gut to be the third man at a contest, and enabled us to clear the ball from defence safely

Cons-

Our mush vaunted midfield still manages to go missing for up to 10 minutes at a time. I know it is hard when quality opposition has a run on at home, but we just about conceded the ball to them in the center for the last quarter. Is this something that will improve with more maturity in Gibbs, Murphy, Grigg?

Garlett's efforts in the 3rd qtr - gold.

Fascinating thread. I watched this interstate and thought we had their measure all game, bar a 10 minute spurt in the last quarter. Given this was a top 6 team destined to play finals this year, you'd be happy to take that.

To me we controlled this match well, maintained an ascendancy and worked hard in midfield.

Claims that we should have won by more ignore that a) we played interstate, b) we played a good team and c) we're still getting our act together.

This was a great win and I was over the moon when the Sydney replay finally finished at 1.30am!

As an aside I really can't work out where the leap was made from Bottom 4-6 club with some good players to Clear Top 4 Club.

Agree molsey - watched the replay again and I have to say that we seemed in control even through the last qtr.

I actually didn't think we would lose it, which is a credit to our backline which had the ball coming in too much in the last.

Strong goals by Carrots and Judd, were great steadiers for us and Fev as well.

to me its having 2 rucks and a stronger defensive game all over the ground.

Our young "non pick 1" guns are getting some love in the footy meeja this week

Robert Shaw's team of the week includes Joseph and Bower at half-back. Shaw was glowing re- AJ on keeping the dangerous Hooper to 1 touch  Smart fellow R Shaw

Shaw usually expands on his selections for the half a dozen-odd players who might be unheralded in the wider footy world. Bower didn't require an explanation - he's quickly established himself as a driving force for Carlton

Footy Classified also gave some credit to these boys plus Hammer, Browne etc
