Once again the 'turn PP into the 3rd stadium' people have been blown out of the water in a simple argument.

You would think they would give up after all this time and so many defeats, must be sadomasochists.

Why are there still lockouts at Docklands then?

What happened to the best fit policy?

The best fit policy went out the door when docklands was built. The issues with medallian club members, MCC members, Food outlets & restaurants means that too many people/businesses will be affected for the small increase in attendance if the game were moved.

So what? If the goal of the AFL was to allow access to as many people as possible then the games would either be moved or scheduled better in the first place.

Name me which games would will be a lockout at the dome this season.

Just looking at our games for the rest of the season and a crowd prediction

R5 - Western Bulldogs. 45-52k. Will be many people who don't turn up in expectation of it being a sellout.
R10 - West Coast Eagles. 35-45k. Docklands is the best venue.
R12 - St Kilda. 60-70k. If we win another 4-5 games betwene now and then the crowd will easily push 70k as St Kilda are flying. Should be at the MCG
R16 - Sydney. 35-45k. Docklands is the best venue.
R18 - North Melb. 50-60k. Depending on how both sides are going, would be expecting to push for finals and should be at MCG.
R21 - Melbourne. 45-55k. Carlton pushing for finals, looking for blood, will be many people dont turn up in expectation of it being a sellout.
R22 - Adelaide. Being an interstate game I'd expect 35-45k but could easily be more if we're in the final 8.

Don't under estimate the actual crowd figure vs the people that would turn up to the MCG knowing its easier to get in and get a seat there.

Forget about now think about tomorrow.

My wonderful sources at Carlton tell me there has been discussion with the AFL about making PP a third stadium. It might not be PP but the AFL does have plans for a 3rd stadium and Carlton have been involved in discussions. My sources are always spot on.

Two grounds are not enough when GC and WS enter the competition otherwise some weekends there will need to be double headers, same day, same venue. Why would the AFL give more games to the MCG or Docklands if money will be lost to football.

Wake up, this is real!!!

Hmm. Guess it'll be a walk in the park to pay off "A SWAG OF CASH", that'll take "YEARS AND YEARS TO PAY OFF"

- once the incentives Collo/AFL offered us to jump ship run out -

- and we are eeking out 50k a game at TD when the same amount of people at PP would net us MUCH MUCH more...

on top of that -

You have heard plenty of arguments why it couldn't be used for low drawing crowd, but fail to listen to them.

1. The goal of the AFL is to allow access to as many poeple to watch the sport as possible.
2. Even a poor crowd at Docklands is greater than 20,000 which is about the amount of car park space at PP
3. If North Melbourne was to play Freo at PP, I doubt they would get 15,000 people there, at Docklands that same game will get 20,000+
4. There are not enough low drawing crowds to justify a third stadium in Mebourne
5. If there is only going to be 2 stadiums, then PP is never going to be one of them.
6. All stadiums must be able to play night games.

...

Heavens. Sorry, I was going to respond to each point individually - but I just realised that they are all rubbish. They have NOTHING to do whatsoever with ScottSaunders question.

Ok. Look I'll give it a try.

1. He said 'low drawing'. I'm certain 'low drawing' would mean people could fit in either grounds... besides,
it's not a argument against for this reason.

2. Difference? 20k at Docklands = US PAYING THE DOME $$$. Car parks don't mean squat in this instance, that's
another argument in itself (and probably the only reasonable argument for leaving PP in the first place)

3. Difference? NM v Freo at the Dome = $$$ TO THE DOME. At PP? = $$$ TO US!
Why would they do that? With two more teams entering the comp, they are going to have to schedule at least a quarter
of the rounds with an extra game in Melbourne. Do the math and you'll see what I mean...

4. See the end of my response to point 3. We.will.need.another.ground.anyway. That or Melbourne teams playing
more homes games interstate (another 17 game membership anyone?!), or we'll be playing on the new square 'pitch' they are building for the second Melbourne A league side.

5. See points 3 and 4. Redundant point.

6. How many night games is Skilled Stadium hosting this year? How many did they host last year?!?!?!

That's it.

Keep looking Steve.

Oh and Jars. See that? See what I mean?

Princes Park was a bastard to get to as a country supporter.

Was it so difficult?

I don't live in the country, but half the time I used to drive there, and get a parking spot with little trouble at the Zoo. A nice 10 minute stroll and I was in the social club.

The other times, I jumped on a tram which dropped me at PP's front door. The Elizabeth Street tramstops would be a four block walk from Spencer St Station, if you're coming in by train.

How is this much more difficult than a country-dweller getting themselves to the MCG?

Honestly, I never understood all the bitching and moaning from supporters about how hard it was to access PP.

I loved footy at PP and hardly missed a game but access was difficult. The last few years parking was almost impossible unless you went there before 1pm. The zoo closed access. Even Barkly Square got tight and put guards on their carpark.

Never had problems parking there. Used to love taking a stroll up the side street next to the cemetary and grabbing a sausage roll with sauce on white bread - nothing beat it.

Grabbed a seat in the social club and then helped myself to the best coffee in town. Sometimes I had a hot chocolate.

Also loved reading the little messages that young girls invariably leave in the toilets about such and such a player being a spunk.

How I miss my youth and PP.

Ah, the joys of PP! :smoking: On my own, I'd go down the Eastern, park at one of the streets off Nicholson St, walk down towards PP, listening to the pre-game analysis on the walkman. Or meet up with my mate Tez at the Sarah Sands (now Bridie O'Reillys) and have a couple of jars before (and after, if we won!)- when I went with Tez, I took public transport from Surrey Hills station and get on the #19.......I do miss PP!! In relation to the 'G and the Dome, PP may have been slightly difficult to access, especially coming from the country- however, it added to the excitement to the day, I'd have thought.

How can a place near so many great pubs be hard to get to?

Coming from which country was access difficult? Coming from Northern Vic (Australia) I've never had a
problem. :thanks:

I actually used to park IN the cemetery.

Used to park next to Dad's grave say hello pop some flowers on there and stroll off to the game - had to hurry back before the gates closed at 5.00pm - but there was usually time to give Dad a run down.

My old man knew a bloke who lived in one of the flats across the road from PP. He used to park his car in one of the permit spots in the morning of a game and we'd park in his garage spot under the flats. never had a problem at PP
