Regardless of all the hype ... I don't think Joseph did such an amazing job on Ablett. It was ok .. but just ok. Don't believe this bloke is going to be the answer for us ... just like i don't believe Bentick will be needed in the midfield. Both brown and Army have really shown something over last year and in MY OPINION will in the long run be MUCH better options. Brown is tough .. skills are not bad ... Army is a great tackler, never gives up .. has improved his disposal and can run like the wind.
I really think we need Garlett in the forward line NOW. He has been much more impressive than Yarran ... and gives us extra bite. Like many other people I reckon that this is our biggest weakness ... more avenues to goal ... I reckon its the number one priority. Not strengthening our back pocket/tagger resources. We have Army/Brown/Anderson/Bannister and even Bentick for that role. I want Carlton to prioritize needs. Garlett should be playing seniors and is needed ... NOW.
I agree with your views on Garlett however, your evaluation of AJ is very harsh IMO.
He did "ok" on Ablett but who in the AFL has done better than "OK"?
His roles on Harvey and Rioli the previous 2 games were very good which tells me he has good consistency and excellent concentration.
Sure Banno and a couple of others have completed shut down jobs but they're just as likely to get cleaned up the following week.
AJ offers good concentration, good pace and greater scope for improvement.
Browne will be quality IMO, great composure and skills but he's a different type of player to Joseph.
