The point I was making is that over the past 6 years the media and oppossing supporters have gleefully and joyfully sunk the size 16 steel cap boots in whilst we were down (bad analogy at this point but thats all I got  ) - over the past 12 months the good news stories have flowed thick and fast and fast and we have all been thankful for the good news - but at any point there has been a minor slip up or for a chance for the media and talkback ferals to come back at us they have taken up the cudgels with with great enthusiasm.

Any way the upshot of all this is "They know we're coming" - and notwithstanding a dildo, ACCC investigation and a kick up the clacker - there is not a damn thing that the media and the AFL and the other 15 clubs can do about it.

Isn't that what we want? It's either that or irrelevance, eg Melbourne. All this makes #17 that much sweeter

The negative stories have come about because individuals at the club have demonstrated almost breathtaking stupidity. Setanta should be publically humiliated for what he did, just like Fev was this time last year. Setanta is not a 'special case'. He's a bloke who has proven definitively that he can't be relied upon when the heat is on to keep his head. In a footballing sense, I don't care what personal issues, background, mentality he's got. He's wearing the Carlton jumper on the field and if he can't behave accordingly he shouldn't be playing. I personally would have sacked him, but I don't have play with him, and trust him on the field - so if the playing group want him back so be it.

Absolutely they have, I agree. I don't, however, think that same prejudice is in place now with this administration, quite the opposite in fact. We've been looked after very well with the draw this year, for example.

Dont be misled by any favours that Demetrispew directs this way in favour of Carlton.

His KPI's are pretty much all about "crowds are up, ratings are up" and if he can leverage those by doing us a favour it aint about what he can do for Carlton its all about what he can do for himself.

That's probably true, but who cares if it works for us?

Right now on economic and social fronts the AFL needs every good news story possible. They're not going to run around sabotaging clubs just for kicks.

They have a track record - or did you forget a certain Friday in November of 2002.

Of course not. But let's also not forget the personalities involved - particularly on the CFC side of that equation. It doesn't justify what the AFL did, there is no justification - but we didn't help ourselves.

Lets not forget the personality on the AFL side of the equation - quite happy to bomb Carlton back to the Stone Age but then when realized how close to extinction he put us and then realized how close he was to not being able to delivery 8 AFL games per weekend to the Channel 9/10/Foxtel consortium - all of a sudden came good with AFL assistance and loan to us to keep us from folding.

Was all about self-preservation for Demetrispew and now its all about maximizing numbers for the AFL and making himself look good.

Wouldn't worry about that, the polls on here and CSC are at fair majority's to stay. They are just feral bogans from opposing teams still trying to work out how to open a link to get the full story.

Surely there has to be a fair reduction in any penalty for hitting a teammate and not the opposition. Surely.

I still find it staggering that this is going to the match review panel.

despite the AFL having 'jurisdiction', it is bullshit. They should not be sticking their noses into it. liase with CFC and ensure a suitable punishment is handed down, but it should be completely in the clubs corner to decide what is best. The AFL can go @#$%&! itself. It basically equates to training IMO and if the AFL wants to get involved this time, then best they get their filthy mits into every training incident across the clubs. Going to be kept pretty busy, but you can't go picking and choosing when you want to get involved.

Given that this happened in an intra-club match, any suspension should be served from next week on. Each intra-club match, each practice match, and each Regional Challenge match should constitute a week of the suspension, and not only NAB Cup and H&A matches.

If he gets 6 weeks, then if we have an intra-club on Friday as previously announced, that should be the 1st week of the sentence and so on.

But I bet that won't happen. Which makes it stink, as this is the least that the Tribunal should do to take into account that it was an in-house match.

I heard he got one week for the right jab, one week for the left hook and a week for each bum cheek.

If that was in a regular game, he would've got 8 at least.

I think sense prevailed, and they treated it less harshly because it's intra-club.

A good result IMO.
