Look, I'm not saying that there isn't a chance of injury to spectators - or to players either during the run onto the ground or following it.
But with no previous incidents to justify banning this tradition it comes across as the AFL (with the current administration in my opinion butchering the game enough) putting to bed things that make our game great and unique.
And yes, I know that it shouldn't take an injury to a player or spectator in order to stop a potentially dangerous, time-honored tradition - but where do the sensible ideas stop and the panicky, knee-jerk actions begin?!
We allow moves like this, and yes I'm perhaps embellishing a little - but soon or later it will finish with the umpires wearing shoulder pads, the boundary fences being padded with pillows and us supporters watching the game from behind a 6 metre cyclone fence - (just like the cricket in India).
I understand what ya saying sparkyblue
I also understand the dills we have in afl have changed the game to much i agree...
but i just fear for our players in the hope they do not get hurt..
the thing is in both your view and my view it is a catch 22 situation
both views can lead to having a cycone fence being put up around the ground and is something i never want to see
so a players get injured as crowds enter ground as a long known tradition and now the afl is going to erect cyclone fence to prevent this happening again
or
afl erects a 6m fence due to the fear of crowds jumping the fence and running on to the ground
I just believe if we stay behind the fence and give a standing ovation to fev for kicking 100 is going to prevent the ding bats at afl from taking such action of bringing in such ludicrists rules and fences etc...
