Having said that, I will admit to leaving halfway through the last quarter of the 1995 Grand Final. To see a smile on Campo's face would have given me nightmares for months.

Did it take you that long to work out we had it in the bag?

But then again you would have nightmares about losing Grand Finals from any sort of winning position.

I'm with you Blue Ro. It doesn't mean you're less of a supporter because you leave early. It just means you're disppointed as I was to see the team you love lose. It doesn't make you disloyal or unpassionate. You ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you how loyal I am.

You're way off BF - way off!

Damn right it is Juddy. :-D

Would you have left early last night if you were here?

We could be 200 points down at half-time and i would still stay until the end. Why would anyone want to leave early and miss a great play from up and coming stars like Jamison and Gibbs, or a goal of the year contender from Eddie Betts?

Those who leave early obviously only care about winning and couldn't give a stuff about the development of our young players. It looks awful to see so many Carlton 'fans' leave early and those that do should be ashamed of themselves. Next time, don't even come to the games if you are going to do that.

It doesn't effect me as i catch the train and stay to the end,but Dude do you drive? I'm just asking, some of those people probably want to get out, before hitting someone who needs a flogging or have roadrage before their is a traffic jam.

Dude also this winning and development thing,it's not the same thing like back in the 40s,50s,60s,70s,80 and early 90s players play for themselves not the jumper,it's a business today, just like a job, money talks. In the end players feel they might get cut or traded one day so there is no loyalty,so money is the main reason they move to set them up for life.

There would be a few guys who bleed Carlton like Carrazoo . I'm betting you there will be players on our list who probably don't know much on our Carlton players from the past. I remember one of our best players didn't even know Jesaulenko when drafted if i'm correct.

Personally I have always stayed to the end, the most glaring example was the last game of 2003, how could you not stay to the end of that game!

While I do not understand it I do not begrudge those leaving sometime in the last quarter if their motivation is to beat traffic etc. this was especially unnderstandable at PP where the car traffic was horrendous (we were rarely in that position in the last quarter before the naughties).

My rule is I will not under any circumstances be outside the ground when the siren goes, that of course does not preclude getting up with 30 seconds to go and begin to walk out.

I really only have an issue with people who walk out before 3 quarter time on a regular basis for no good reason other than the team is behind.

These are the people who must incur the wrath of the Carlton supporting public. I know one guy who regularly leaves at half time of games. That is simply not acceptable in a civilised society. Jail terms should be permissable.

Anyone who's sat with me at the dome the last few years would know I agree with this guy.

If you want to talk about dispassionate supporters, what a shit turnout by the saints fans last night. Thought it would get 65k. We would have outnumbered them at least 3 to 1. But that's the effect conditioning to indoor football will have on a cold July night...

Why start threads about disloyal carlton supporters?? 3 wooden spoons in 5 years & 40k+ members! Go Blues!

I left early mainly cos Dad wanted to.

Primarily, I guess people would rather not endure the suffering of watching their team be beaten. Usually one only leaves if it's looking like getting worse or we're a long way gone.

Beating the traffic is a bonus.

Another thing to consider is that some people just don't place their heart in the hands of a football team, and thus they are not as emotionally into it. They're still supporters, just not obsessed. Perhaps less passionate, but not "disloyal".

There's nothing wrong with being a fan of Carlton without being diehard. Imagine going to a Melbourne Tigers/Victory/Storm match as a casual fan and leaving early (though blowouts are less likely or threatening in the above codes/sports). It would seem a bit strange for other supporters to be so passionately displeased with you.

Right on...they still pay as much for their membership too!

I left a Richmond game a few years ago at half time we were so inept. Went to the Mount View and got very drunk.

I agree.

Everyone deals with the disappointment in different ways.

I left early for the 1999 grand final. Watching the other team celebrate is too much to take sometimes.

It doesn't mean I didn't respect Carlton's efforts in that year, it is more about watching the other team celebrate. That is the difficult bit for me.

Exactly, couldn't have put it better myself. Being in London, I switched the radio off just as the siren was a bout to sound. The last thing I wanted to hear was the Aints theme song.

LOL, I waited all of half time to see if the boys were going to have a crack in the second half. After watching the Roos waltz around our statues and score a goal in the first few seconds of the third quarter, I promptly stood up, bid farewell to my mate and his old man and left. If the Blues weren't prepared to put up some sort of fight I wasn't gonna hang around and watch it. In hindsight, it was an inspired move by my good self. 8)

To me, if my boys are still there, then so am I. Do you think players don't know they're getting thrashed, with no chance of winning and would prefer to walk off and get into a warm shower?? How would the early leavers feel if the players just walked off? And how do you think the players feel seeing their own "supporters" giving up and leaving them?

The flaw in this argument is that supporters pay to attend games, but players get paid to play.

Surely as someone who has been a member for many years, stumping up my cash year-in, year-out, I have the right to choose when I leave the ground.

If we extend the argument that those who leave early are disloyal, then what does that make those who don't turn up in the first place?

Mandy has summed it up very well. How would us supporters feel if the players walked off the field early? We would feel let down and disappointed and get the impression that the players don't care about representing the club in a good way. Well, I am sure the players would feel the same thing when Carlton supporters leave early. It doesn't do their confidence any good at all.
Leaving early to avoid traffic is not an excuse. If you aren't prepared to drive in traffic, then don't come to the footy.

What do you mean, the players did leave early on Friday night. At the 15 minute mark infact.

Yeah, I left early...with about 5 minutes to go. I left because I had to get up at 5:30 and I had a 1 hour drive ahead of me. Also because I had my 10 yo princess with me.

As it happened, I spent the next 45 minutes looking for my @#$%&! car  .

Disagree completely.

Doull summed it up perfectly when he said that players get paid to play for the club while supporters pay to go to the game.

I'm sorry but the players should give 100% whether they are playing in fron tof 80,000 fans or no fans. That's their job.......

I am expected to get my daily work completed without people round me encouraging me (apart from the odd word from manager).

This whole thread is a crock.......supporters can leave when they please and should not be subjected to crap from other fans.
