37 pages on Fev's contract - it is taking on Hamillian proportions. I notice Josh K assures us he will sign and that was known 4 weeks ago, Josh is usually on the money, and I enjoy the information shared. Still wouldn't it be good if Fev just signed, end all the speculation.
Fev is a super talent, who is great with supporters. He still hasn't fulfilled his talent, having put in one completely consistent season, several half seasons and a lot of wasted seasons. He is still immature, seems to have little common sense and needs to be constantly reminded that there is no 'it's all about me' in team. I realise his managers are new kids on the block, yet more ex footballers looking to have an easy life on a % of a footballers wages. How many player managers could genuinely call themselves professionals?
Whatever Fev gets from us will be very good and a bit less than he'd get anywhere else. Maybe over the remainder of his career he might get $500,000 more from another club. Half of that would go in tax. So is the remaining $250k the difference between the good life and being destitute? Fact is if Fev can't set himself up for life on what the Blues pay him, then the extra at another club won't make any difference. Fev reminds me of a naughty ten year old, so I am not sure how much pocket money he will have left when he is 40, unless he gets some wise advice.
And whatever happens, we should never again tolerate David Allison style management.
As to whether he is a 'champion' - you're kidding. He is an exceptionally talented player, who has too often in the past played selfish non team footy. I can't recall any Carlton champion, or any player anywhere who has done a dummy spit like Fev's Freeo game last year. If he didn't have the sort of talent he does, he'd be playing in the burbs. He owes us and he needs to be smart enough to understand that he can become a Carlton champ if he wants to be. When he has been an outstanding and consistent team oriented player for the next 5 seasons, I'll be happy to call him a champ.
I think someone brought up Buzz in the champion debate. Buzz played about 60 games but his performance across all those games would be superior in his contribution to the team than any 60 Fev has played thus far. Remember Buzz and Johnno invented forward pressure. Despite the screamers and impossible goals Buzz was also one of the best tacklers in the VFL. I'd love to be able to say that about Fev, and when I can I will call him a champion.
Listen Geriatric,
Fev is no Saint but his stats say he is a great Carlton Player. You under value Fev and glorify the past when you put Busoustow in Fevs class. The Buzz was a great Flanker whose inconsistency was camoflaged in a good side.
Fev's performance in what statistically is the 3rd worst side behind Stkilda and Fitzroy since 1970, was outstanding. His play is extremely team oriented. Unfortunately he has been tempremental but rarely on the field in the last 3 seasons. It his off field antics that have got him in more trouble. He has kicked 450 goals in 160 games & his goals have not come easily. Those are the stats of a player who sits somewhere between very good and a champion
