I expect Fev to have signed a three year deal by end of next week.

Hutchie is a goose.

Agree. Perhaps Hutchie should source Libba for some groundbreaking news on the Fev deal.

37 pages on Fev's contract - it is taking on Hamillian proportions. I notice Josh K assures us he will sign and that was known 4 weeks ago, Josh is usually on the money, and I enjoy the information shared. Still wouldn't it be good if Fev just signed, end all the speculation.

Fev is a super talent, who is great with supporters. He still hasn't fulfilled his talent, having put in one completely consistent season, several half seasons and a lot of wasted seasons. He is still immature, seems to have little common sense and needs to be constantly reminded that there is no 'it's all about me' in team. I realise his managers are new kids on the block, yet more ex footballers looking to have an easy life on a % of a footballers wages. How many player managers could genuinely call themselves professionals?

Whatever Fev gets from us will be very good and a bit less than he'd get anywhere else. Maybe over the remainder of his career he might get $500,000 more from another club. Half of that would go in tax. So is the remaining $250k the difference between the good life and being destitute? Fact is if Fev can't set himself up for life on what the Blues pay him, then the extra at another club won't make any difference. Fev reminds me of a naughty ten year old, so I am not sure how much pocket money he will have left when he is 40, unless he gets some wise advice.

And whatever happens, we should never again tolerate David Allison style management.

As to whether he is a 'champion' - you're kidding. He is an exceptionally talented player, who has too often in the past played selfish non team footy. I can't recall any Carlton champion, or any player anywhere who has done a dummy spit like Fev's Freeo game last year. If he didn't have the sort of talent he does, he'd be playing in the burbs. He owes us and he needs to be smart enough to understand that he can become a Carlton champ if he wants to be. When he has been an outstanding and consistent team oriented player for the next 5 seasons, I'll be happy to call him a champ.

I think someone brought up Buzz in the champion debate. Buzz played about 60 games but his performance across all those games would be superior in his contribution to the team than any 60 Fev has played thus far. Remember Buzz and Johnno invented forward pressure. Despite the screamers and impossible goals Buzz was also one of the best tacklers in the VFL. I'd love to be able to say that about Fev, and when I can I will call him a champion.

Listen Geriatric,

Fev is no Saint but his stats say he is a great Carlton Player. You under value Fev and glorify the past when you put Busoustow in Fevs class. The Buzz was a great Flanker whose inconsistency was camoflaged in a good side.

Fev's performance in what statistically is the 3rd worst side behind Stkilda and Fitzroy since 1970, was outstanding. His play is extremely team oriented. Unfortunately he has been tempremental but rarely on the field in the last 3 seasons. It his off field antics that have got him in more trouble. He has kicked 450 goals in 160 games & his goals have not come easily. Those are the stats of a player who sits somewhere between very good and a champion

Don't think I said Buzz was a champion Michael, I think I said that I wish Fev showed as much defensive pressure all the time as Buzz.

Fev has the opportunity to be a Carlton champion, he has the talent, but one complete consistent season, interspersed with the sort of selfish, immature nonsense he served up at various times last year, don't make him a champion. He has no problems kicking goals, now he needs to be a leader in terms of encouraging team mates and forward line pressure. With his speed and strength if he chases all the time as he does sometimes it could be worth 5 goals a game and a lot of wins. I hope he does it. I want him to be a champion, but I am not satisfied with mercurial talent alone.

Perhaps you should lower your expectations of what it takes to become a champion...

If you read all the pages you will find most people are arguing whether Fev is worth that much. Most people know he is going to sign.

What he said.

Given what Ox said on SEN yesterday, why hasn't the thread title been changed to reflect his discussion with Fev, whereas Hutchy's continues to get prominence?

What he say?

-he is flabbergasted at the amount of attention he is receiving about his contract

-he's been told by the club to batten down the hatches and so forth.

-said it was garbage that he'd said anything about sydney at the boxing

-said the only reason he hasn't signed yet is because steven icke is currently overseas and i think he said he's returning today.

-hopes to sign with carlton very shortly.

Hmmm...

who to believe? Synners, Grrofunger, and Josh Kaplan? Or John Barnes?

He, he, he... I'll stick with TC's regulars methinks. But here's the Barnes story out of interest for everyone anyway... on the proviso that people don't take it too seriously. Let's just wait until this President's dinner tomorrow night when our reliable informants tell us the deal will be announced:

I'd bet my house on mail from Jimmy Barnes over John Barnes anyday.

For all the comments on this topic the fact that its taken so long for a deal to be done shits me personally

I want Fevola to stay but he is obviously he is driving a hard bargain .

Given that the club nearly sacked him 4 months ago

I reckon its a bit rich.
Time to sign it or move on.

Going on that piece of journalistic brilliance, the minimum prerequisite to work in AFL media is obviously kindergarten graduation!
That is crap!!!

Bazza fears Fev trade, according to John Barnes (+ gallery)

Michael Auciello

10Jul08

online poll

Do you think Nicole Kidman should have named her daughter Sunday Rose?

BANISHED Sydney forward Barry Hall believes the Swans are trying to shaft him to make room for Carlton's Brendan Fevola.

That is the explosive claim made by Geelong Advertiser columnist John Barnes today, as speculation mounts about a possible offer by Sydney to the Blues' spearhead.
Have your say on the feedback form below

Barnes also claims Fevola met Swans coach Paul Roos in Sydney on Saturday, despite the club's continued denial of any offer, or future offer.

See Barry Hall photo gallery here

"A friend of mine in Sydney rang me up on Tuesday after having a coffee with Barry Hall," Barnes writes.

"It's like Barry Hall was telling my friend that they're trying to force him out the back door because they think they've got something else lined up. That's what Barry thinks.

"I think they're trying to shaft Barry for a newer model.

"Hence Adam Goodes picking up Brendan Fevola at the hotel last Saturday to meet with coach Paul Roos.

"And they're still denying it. Someone's playing funny buggers."

Hall was stood down indefinitely by the Swans on Monday after a recommendation from club psychologist Grant Brecht following another run-in with the AFL match review panel from last weekend's game against Collingwood.

Barnes says he understands why Fevola would be tempted to listen to Sydney's offer, reportedly a four-year deal.

"My personal opinion is, I think Fev will definitely look at every option, and what man wouldn't, with the figures they're chucking around," he says.

"He's got a hard decision to make.

"Even still, I reckon Barry's got a right to be angry.

"It's amazing how footy will chew you up and spit you out once they've finished with you."
