Tying ourselves into a reasonably long contract where we only make 25k profit on a game where we draw 40k when other clubs are making 2-300k is a shit contract.
Have a look at the financial data that has been reported and you would have seen that the upfront $$$ was never any real money that went to the club - only to pay off broken contracts.
But of course the dome move was fantastic wasnt it?
Where do you get the financial data?
Is it true that we only make about 25 k on a 40,000 crowd at Docklands?
What are the exact figures?
financial data was referring to profit/loss and cashflow figures released from year to year at the time of the move which didnt add up when it came to the multimillion $$ payout which we allegedly received as an incentive to move (as the administration of the time sold it to members).
In terms of the dome figures
Quote:
The Blues recently drew 38,675 to their round eight game against the Brisbane Lions, but it is understood to have received only modest returns from that game — a fraction of what anchor tenant Essendon* and Collingwood would receive for the same turnout.
The Magpies, who play only two home games at Telstra Dome this season, are believed to be guaranteed $200,000 a home game at the Dome, regardless of the crowd. Essendon* has the best arrangement of all clubs at the Dome, with a clause in its contract stipulating that no club can receive a better deal.
Assuming the AFL paid the Blues the same $400,000 for a Carrara game that it has given North Melbourne, the return could be more than 10 times what Carlton would receive for the same match at its primary home ground.
Not exactly 25k but given $400k is more than 10 times what we'd receive for a dome game against an interstate side the figure I put out from memory (apologies for that) but itwasnt that far off ie if it were
11 times = 36k return/match
12 times = 33k return/match
13 times = 30.7k return/match
The actual return we get from TD would probably also be dependant upon the crowd size. If the crowd was 33k instead of 38k quoted in the figure then I'd imagine that we would make significantly less
