Guys - you're all legends!

Especially the Hopoate mention

And Deano, I need this job, but I will consider how better to phrase your suggestion

Keep it coming! (Flower redneck .. heheh .. GayFL: not that there's anything wrong with that!)

I used to live in QLD and was a HUGE Broncos fan (until Superleauge came in and screwed it all up).

Am still VERY MUCH PUMPED for SOO tonight. One of the best Sporting events on the Calender.

But...................... The Rugby Fans, mainly NSW ones, who bag our game do so for one reason and one reason only..............plain old jelousy.

I remember a sports commentator on the today show who used to report on all codes. Whenever he was to report on AFL he would do so in a very negative way to to the game and victorians...............he was just plain Jelous.

And it's funny cause their code should be in front of ours. The State Of Origin is far superiour to ours, the refs make less mistakes (but still make mistakes nonetheless), the rules are easier to follow (and get changed less times mind you) and............their Footy Show DESTROYS ours.

Don't disregard their code............it's still a very entertaining game to watch. Fast, brutal and skillfull. And as good as Chris Judd is.........i honestly believe that Greg Inglis is better. He is amazing to watch and could well go down as one of the greatest athletes every to play the game. Go along and watch him one night..........in fact, watch him play tonight, he is nothing short of phenomanol.

But in terms of switching your boss or finding the right words to shut him up................don't worry about it................just let him rot in a pool of his own jelousy along with the rest of the NSW Rugby fans and their boards. (NRL Board is CLEARY jelous that we can pull the crowds we do!)

And lack of understanding, or just not wanting to understand.

But that's OK.

All about being comfortable with one's own beliefs.

Thanks for the help guys

Turns out he used to play the game, which is why he doesn't like it .. so at least he's given it a go

I just went to ask if he'd come to a game - OK it would have to be a Swines game, and tried the beer option .. nup - not interested

Flower

So anyway, I'll be taking Ryan's "don't worry about it................" option .. he reckons he knows, and he's not interested, so flower him

*edited for accuracy*

Also ask your boss why the Storms crowds aren't very big, you know, if we have nothing better to do in Melbourne why aren't we flocking to Storm games????

apart from the fact that Sami likes them

Happened to me in 1987 too .. didn't swap to AFL until 10 years later, and didn't join The Club until 2002 .. and we all know what's happened since then!

I reckon you should just shirtfront him and tell him to shut the f$%# up, or the next words he speaks will be muffled by the fact that his head will be up his own arse.

Is that because he didn't get 'Hopoated' like he thought he would?

I think the best approach is to get patronsing or condecsending

"Its great that people like you stick with NRL. It's terrible how its become a 2nd rate comp"

"The problem with the AFL is its too corporate with its big crowds, massive TV deals and high wages. We needs good grass roots comps like NRL, SANFL and VFL to keep the common man involved"

"A-League and NRL are now basically feeder competitions for European leagues. That'll ensure the code survives long term"

Hey good news -

the assistant manager wants to be more involved

Thing is, he thinks I go for "the guys who are playing the Swans this weekend"

I am in the process of showing him the difference, with a great deal of urgency

At least he's trying to care!!

edit - didnt want to start debates...

basically

End of the day if he cant appreciate another contest.. His loss move on.

Also why dont you show an interest in his team

All you have to do is mention their best players, Bradley Clyde, Ruben Wiki, Ricky Stuart, Mal Meninga (smell ma finger mal meniga = his bro got busted for rape i think) Or Laurie Daley. Favourite sons of the club he supports who knows he might take an interest in Carlton.

Why are you even bothering with this?

Grown men sniffing each others bums and dry rooting the ground. Oh, and the ones that don't do that just run into each other. Yep, it's a great game alright.

Now look.... I play Rugby Union and I love AFL... it's amazing - you can do both...
ANd I'm a 140 KG prop forward who likes smashing into the opposition in scrums, but I also like musical theatre and Metallica and AC / DC.
(And I'd also kick the arse of many a sprint champion in the endurance stakes, so don't think I'm a Fat Ole Sofa in a Guernsey - but there is a reason I'm called House..... )

Both games have their attractions - both games have their faults - and both games have their detractors. Throw Rugby League in and you've got a whole new ball game as well -but since it is the only sport that gets coverage up here - you have to get used to it! :)

There's no guarantee that you'll impress him by taking him to a game either - my mate is a top bloke, but can't see the sense in AFL - each to his own. I'd just let him know that you love the game and you pity him for not being able to.....

Now I know I've reacted to a bait - but geeze - how childish do you want to be CB??? :)

I used to play rugby league on my own when I was growing up.

Just me and a ball.

I grabbed the ball under my arm, and ran full pelt into the brick wall holding up the side of our house.

Then I lay on the ground and dry humped the driveway for 5 seconds.

Then up I got and ran into the wall again. And dry humped the driveway. Again.

Then again.

Then again.

Then again.

Then mum stuck her head out of the kitchen window. "That's FIVE" she yelled.

So I got the ball, kicked it as far as I could. Then I ran to chase it.

Picked it up.

And ran full pelt into the wall again.

"ONE" came the cry from the kitchen.

That was when I discovered what a GREAT game Rugby League truly is.

not attacking you at all bh, so dont take this like that, but people who quote stuff like this have absolutely no understanding for the game of rugby league at all.

I used to be exactly the same. But the game is A LOT more than that. It is extremely tactical, with the game being all about territory. People think that each time a league team get the ball they try and score a try, its not like that, it's about setting yourself up for being in good field position next time you get the ball, setting the other team up to be under great defensive pressure when it's their turn to have the ball.

I'm not saying league is better than AFL, im not saying AFL is better than league, but what i am saying is that there is room for both codes in Australia and this stupid cross code rivalry is bullshit.

so, let the caning commence........

edit*-i've often thought that it would be an excellent idea for Carlton to align themselves with an NRL team, a partnership if you will.....

i.e. my beloved blues, aligning themselves with my beloved south sydney.
both teams are the most successful in their respective comps. both teams have been shafted by "the man" both teams are starting a resurgence.......it's gold.
