But, when it was all going so well. We loved him so. SCAPEGOAT....

Easy to blame one man than an entire admin.

I did not think a lot of his decisions were great, but come on! Eyes wide open children!

ummm, nice assumptions there but personally I never liked or wanted Elliot as president of our club from day one.

Unfortunately as a twelve year old supporter living in country Victoria it was a bit difficult to act on it.

... and the two premierships argument is hilarious, with another administration/s we might have won more premierships!

Jarusa, he was what we needed at the time.

The brown paper bag BS, all the crap since then was outed by who and why?

All I am saying is look at things with a level perspective. Win or lose....

Sit at a bar and who do you really want to chat to? Jack, Collo or Smorgan?

Linchpin that 'who'd you rather have a beer with' attitude got the US George W Bush rather than Al Gore. Now look where their country has gone the past 8 years.

I wasn't happy seeing him sitting next to Dick, but I suppose we can forgive (well I can't, but others can if they want) but never forget. And I will never forget that that man almost destroyed my football club.

Elders IXL

Waterwheel

Need I say any more?

The guy should have gone to gaol after Elders IXL and Waterwheel was just downright simple breaches of the Corporations Act.

Carlton Football Club would have joined those names if Elliott had stayed in charge.

Syd.. you do know and comprehend our best chance of going to the G was when we were asked to go to the G... and Elliot the visionary said "nah... not to the G.. whats there??.. im building my ivory tower at PP"

The guy was a muppet!!!

Yes i know he loves the club and thought he was doing whats best for this club..... (but it was now the AFL.. not the VFL..... and the world has changed and it was going to continue changing at a rapd pae)

Elliot had us rooted to aplace that was becoming obsolete... his "Carlton never rebuild" mantra was the stuff la la is made of...

.. and his understanding of stuff like list management .. drafts and salary caps was zilch!!!

Unfortunately the good teams especially those interstate teams without the legacies of the past were going about their business moving and setting themselves up into the future....not the past!!!

If they were still playing there the stands had value - Ask Geelong

If he had us rooted he ought to be congradulated for not holding a grudge and help convince Pratt to come and rescue them - and there is no denying that . and for Pratt to have him right by his side for everyone to see there can not be any doubt that between the two of them they have turned this club back round to where it was before they left

Supporters should be grateful

When Elliot went the money / sponsors went with him

memo to Syd.. were not a country town that will get money from the govt for local business....

We didnt have sponsors.....when Elliot left....

I seriously doubt you comprehend the world as it is....

Why would a big company want corporate seats at a delapidated PP over the other state of the art venues they can choose to entertain???

Did you ever see ours???

Look.. stop it!!!

Youre embarassing yourself...

Synbad, still many, many, axes to grind in this world. Still someone to blame.

Unless linchpin can give evidence that i am wrong... you shouldnt comment..

*snip*

John Elliot is a convicted corporate criminal who very nearly took Carlton to Bankruptcy.

His corporate management syle is one that is fatally flawed - and results in the organisation under his control inevitably collapse in a sea of debt and shonky accounting..

I felt uncomfortable about him when he first became President, but over time, I gradually became more aware of a sense that he would bring very bad things to Carlton - which of course happened.

Elliots marketability, integrity and credability are close to zero, maybe below zero...

He is welcome to support Carlton and have a minor involvement - but I would doubt if he would be allowed to be a part time Kindergarten President or even President of Manangatang FC let alone have a position of authority at a club like Carlton ever again.

But one ironical thing is that unless we had the wooden spoons and the the bottom 4 finishes that we did - we would not have the strong list that we now have. fill a few more holes inb the team - and we will have a side able to win multiple flags.

A more financially sound and better managed club that copped the draft penalties we did that bottomed out at say 12th like Essendon* is doing - will not result in an early flag..

Because of our draft picks - Carlton is closer than many think to challenge for a flag, especially if luck with injuries, the draw and who we might end up playing in finals rolls our way...

I missed Synbad's avatar, good to see it back on matters regarding JE and the club..

But seeing Jack sitting next to Sir Richard on Sunday was like seeing the devil  sitting next to God asking for forgiveness.

Elliott's final legacy: Out Brittain, in Pagan...

A misguided effort to save his own skin - putting his ego ahead of the Club's best interests :P

I never minded Elliott. It was his time to go though. I reckon it could have been done alot better than the way it was.

People got all crazy and Elliott got all stubborn. People got crazier and in the end we were stuck with people that just were not right. The place no longer felt like Carlton.

Elliott always had his mate pratt to fall back on and also i reckon Delutis would have been a better option than the others.

I forgive Elliott for his errors but wont forgive the idiots who carried on like idiots and in the end left us with blokes who were no good.

There had to be a better way. We should have stuck together.

I will give John this, he is a Carlton man through and through and thus he can go along to the footy, sit wherever he wants and watch the boys. But I will never ever forget the massive mess he left the club in and the fact that he used the club for his personal plaything for many, many years.

It was all good while we were winning.

Elliott made me cringe many times during his presidency. Saying that, I believe that he had nothing but the Carlton Footy Club at heart when he made decisions. Underhanded, overhanded, what ever, he was a big part of our club for almost 20 years. He had a massive part in our recruiting of players and flags. He also had a part to play in the demise of 2002.

But to blame him solely is unfair. A club is just that. A 'club'. It was a collection of bad decisions, by all and sundry. Not just Jack.

No John ran the club as a personal fiefdom. I should know I was involved heavily at the time.

That's true, along with a few others! But all is forgiven. He is a Carlton man through and through and bleeds the navy blue like we all do.

It's like the prodigal ...... godfather, I suppose! :)
