Thanks for all your appreciation of the thread - it was such a great night , i had to share !!
you're testing out my memory big time BB
Honestly the biggest memory of the game , the biggest thing that stood out was how hard carrazzo and scotland worked - they just ran and ran and ran
One piece of play in particular carrazzo got the ball on one wing and we switched play the other side of the ground - carrazzo would have had 5 disposals in that play and then he got it up on half forward - he sprinted from one side of the ground constantly providing the link and then ended up being the target from that piece of play - was amazing gut busting running and i can appreciate why a kick mightn't be pin point perfect after busting your ass that hard and far.
Unfortunately i didnt hear the sledging - lynchy was kicking all his shockers down the other end - i wish i did though - it is so awesome watching our back 6 grow - and to hear they are now confident to sledge the shit out of the opposition ( and back it up ) away from home - shows great signs !!
i thought our forward line worked well - there was not much fev could have done to get the ball in that 3rd quarter - the only time i think i was critical of our setup was when west coast plopped embley loose right in front of fev - we just left him loose - it was 2 on fev in the forward 50 and eddie/ellard on the right hand side - the whole left hand side was empty - i understand leaving space for fev but embley got the ball a few times and had the whole left hand side of the field to himself to attack for the eagles. - i was critical of setanta in the past few weeks for what i saw as standing flat footed on a half forward flank - well thats what i thought we should have done - to make embley accountable - not man up embley like pagan would have done - but simply going and presenting in the open side of the 50 - but honestly our F50 worked quite well and there was nothing we could do in that 3rd - Cox was tearing it up in the middle and we couldnt get the ball !
Our boys heads dropped big time in that 3rd you could see it al over their faces - it was "here we go again" particularly jamo , bower and waite from what i could see - the ball kept sailing over their heads. - carrazzo was busy trying to rev up the defenders - to keep their heads up. We simply couldnt get the ball and the heads dropped - the great sign was the growing leadership and the ability to fightback and kick on - AWAY FROM HOME !
Setanta - I thought he was great - looked extremely nervous - but is learning when to back himself and when not to - left his man a couple of times at the right time and helped spoil - he was very very concious of his man and often didnt have his eye on the ball - which is dangerous - i thought he read the play reasonably well ( when he was watching it )
bentick bentick bentick - i remember saying "bentick again" about a million times - gee he was good - but i hate to say it i knew he would miss that goal as he had done it a few times in warmups - exactly the same way he missed in the game .
i cant wait to see the replay - hopefully its available from 'the usual' places very soon
GO BLUES !!
