I was sitting at the other end of the ground(not a huge number of Blues fans there) -and boy did that singing sound great coming from the "Carlton" end during the 4th quarter!

Grro - this is the best thread ever. Your post is simply brilliant. Honestly I felt like I was there too holding the banner, handballing to Waite, sharing the win with Eddie and downing beers all night.

Carlton rocks!

Congratulations grrroooo...you little beauty.

So happy you lost your virginity; it was worth the wait I bet.

Bloody fantastic report from one of the family. Great report. Thanks for taking me there and reliving the night. One of the best reads for a long time...probably since Deano's 'What Carlton means to me' thread.

Tingles man...tingles.

I had to cancel my business trip to Perth and head to Brisbane. I'm not doing that again....we're on a roll in WA....I want to have a beer or 10 and a kebab with you.

Great to read things from a different perspective re Carrazzo, Scotland, Fevola......give us more on that. I've got all the time in the world for your report (s). Keep it coming as the cloud and fog leaves your brain.

Did you hear the sledging Lynchy copped which made him want to be taken off? Was that Jamo, Santa and Waitey? If so, give us a couple of lines.

So, how do you think our forwardline functioned? Especially in the 3rd when the challenge came, was it a disfunctional forwardline, or is it the usual case of no supply?

Was it intensity that we lost in that period. was there still a lot of enthusiasn during that barage.

What did you think of Setanta. other than his size?

Thanks for the song in the 4th...yeah we could hear it. Was thinking of you at the time too. Thinking "there goes the gggrrroo going off like a navy blue frog in a sock!"

Love your style and love your team gro!

Thanks for all your appreciation of the thread - it was such a great night , i had to share !!

you're testing out my memory big time BB

Honestly the biggest memory of the game , the biggest thing that stood out was how hard carrazzo and scotland worked - they just ran and ran and ran

One piece of play in particular carrazzo got the ball on one wing and we switched play the other side of the ground - carrazzo would have had 5 disposals in that play and then he got it up on half forward - he sprinted from one side of the ground constantly providing the link and then ended up being the target from that piece of play - was amazing gut busting running and i can appreciate why a kick mightn't be pin point perfect after busting your ass that hard and far.

Unfortunately i didnt hear the sledging - lynchy was kicking all his shockers down the other end - i wish i did though - it is so awesome watching our back 6 grow - and to hear they are now confident to sledge the shit out of the opposition ( and back it up ) away from home - shows great signs !!

i thought our forward line worked well - there was not much fev could have done to get the ball in that 3rd quarter - the only time i think i was critical of our setup was when west coast plopped embley loose right in front of fev - we just left him loose - it was 2 on fev in the forward 50 and eddie/ellard on the right hand side - the whole left hand side was empty - i understand leaving space for fev but embley got the ball a few times and had the whole left hand side of the field to himself to attack for the eagles. - i was critical of setanta in the past few weeks for what i saw as standing flat footed on a half forward flank - well thats what i thought we should have done - to make embley accountable - not man up embley like pagan would have done - but simply going and presenting in the open side of the 50 - but honestly our F50 worked quite well and there was nothing we could do in that 3rd - Cox was tearing it up in the middle and we couldnt get the ball !

Our boys heads dropped big time in that 3rd you could see it al over their faces - it was "here we go again" particularly jamo , bower and waite from what i could see - the ball kept sailing over their heads. - carrazzo was busy trying to rev up the defenders - to keep their heads up. We simply couldnt get the ball and the heads dropped - the great sign was the growing leadership and the ability to fightback and kick on - AWAY FROM HOME !

Setanta - I thought he was great - looked extremely nervous - but is learning when to back himself and when not to - left his man a couple of times at the right time and helped spoil - he was very very concious of his man and often didnt have his eye on the ball - which is dangerous - i thought he read the play reasonably well ( when he was watching it )

bentick bentick bentick - i remember saying "bentick again" about a million times - gee he was good - but i hate to say it i knew he would miss that goal as he had done it a few times in warmups - exactly the same way he missed in the game .

i cant wait to see the replay - hopefully its available from 'the usual' places very soon

GO BLUES !!

Thanks for your wonderful post grrofunger. A few others have said it but I'll ride their coattails and say that reading this was like being you at the game near the players etc.
Great stuff.

Carrots and Scotland were the main offenders apparently - telling him to kick left footed or try his left boot on his right foot. Also asking if the "Q was in the rack yet" and why bother playing in the forward line when you're the worst kick in the side>

Reasonably good natured but constant! I wonder if that was a Juddy directive as he would have known it would get to him?

I know this thread is all about your day Grr but I must say after travelling to Perth from Melbourne I also had a sensational day and night in Subi!

Although we spent about an hour walking the streets before the game looking for this JD O'Reilleys all to no avail. Ended up having a meal and a pot(midi in WA) at the VIC, which was quite a nice pub with alot of Carlton supporters.

Had a minor scare when our tickets didn't scan at the gate and had to go the ticketing box to be let into the ground. Damn Ebay!

Was sitting directly behind the goals on the top deck opposite to the Carlton end and was surprisingly surrounded by mostly Blues fans. Got mighty nervous towards the end of the 3rd but to see the boys challenged and still come away with a victory was worth all the dirty looks I was copping on friday for wearing my Carlton gear!

All in all found Perth very quiet on the weekend but it didn't matter as the main event on friday was what it was all about. After years of travelling interstate to watch the mighty blues it was nice to finally have that feeling of money well spent!

GO BLUES!
