Is it really that big a deal for 5-6 games a year?
I just don't see what the big fuss is, and it has nothing to do with getting with the times, but is just about, well, it doesn't really matter, because I just don't see it as a big deal.
These are the things about the club that I love. In no particular order...
16 Premierships.
One of the traditional "big four" clubs.
Our success (okay, we've been shit lately, but you get my drift).
Being a leader in the game on and off the field (see above).
Kernahan.
Silvagni.
Bradley.
Nicholls.
Lappin/Rice (yes, I love the service these blokes gave our club with the resources their bodies gave them).
Christou-Dean-Sexton.
The way we looked after Motts and Des English in 1987.
The near perfection of season 1995.
The Barassi revolution.
The first club to win three flags on the trot.
Six flags in my lifetime.
Sticking it up the Bombers, a la 1999.
Of all those things listed above how many have been directly affected by the colour of our jumper? Absolutely none of them!
The jumper is great and I do love it the dark navy with the white CFC. But I love all those things listed above much more because they are the things that make the jumper great. Without all those things, and more, the jumper would represent nothing. No matter how good our jumper looks, without our history, it is worthless. Just a lifeless piece of fabric.
So, the way I see it, our jumper could be anything, black, white or brindle, but if it is our official jumper then it matters to me. The jumper is a representation of our great club ... it is NOT our great club. The men that play for our club, play for the club and what it represents. The jumper is just one small piece of that puzzle.
Let's not overreact at what is ultimately a minor inconvenience. We have far greater things to be focusing on than the colours we wear on the weekend. Moreover, if we win #17 in a white jumper I couldn't care less. I want our club back winning grand finals. That, and only that, is the ultimate aim. If it's done in a different jumper to our preferred colours I, for one, won't be complaining.
Great post CB.
I don't care what we play in, we've got so much history and tradition around here, there's no reason not to add another one to that list. If we win our next premiership in the white, what sort of supporter will be saying it doesn't count because we weren't wearing the navy?
FFS.
It's a jumper - I don't give a shit what we're wearing, I just want the club to win.
