There is no point in demographic's of a papers readership , its a great step in forward thinking , i dont buy "il globo" the italian version of the greek one , but i read my parents copy when i am over !

Untapped markets are more your asian, african and arabic as they are more recent immigrants.

What is the level of migration of people from Greece in the last 5-15 years compared to asian, african or arabic immigrants ... see my point.


Believe it or not my uncle is 82, lived in Brunswick since he arrived and has held a membership since the late 60s....He is also a massive Sth Mlb Hellas fan...

But i know a few Greeks and Italians over 60 who have been Carlton members for YEARS....
I reckon were quick to pidgeon hole...

And the youth that might read this paper on a Monday most likely read the Herald Sun seven days a week and most likely a 100% percent of them already follow a AFL team. Therefore they are not part of the "untapped" market and this is where the club needs to focus on. I doubt any young Carlton supporter of greek heritage is going to rush and buy a membership purely on the basis that they saw an advertisement in the greek newspaper or a Carlton supporter from an italian heritage do the same because they saw an advertisement in an italian newspaper.

I doubt whether it's intended to produce an instant result. For that matter, I doubt if ads in Aussie newspapers often produce an instant result. Presumably it's about increasing the profile of our 'brand' in the long-term and enjoying the long-term benefits of support and membership that come from that. If the Greek community can be persuaded that Carlton is their team, then over time it will increase pressure on Greeks to support Carlton whether born into Carlton supporting families or not.

In recent years I have seen a lot more Greeks and Italians supoprting the filth than the Blues, so anything to increase our supporter base in these communities cna only be good.

Greeks were inner city migrants and were mostly settled originally in the Collingwood/Fitzroy/Richmond/StMelb/Brunswick/Sth Melb areas.

Most support Collingwood Richmond and Carlton.. Collingwood would be most and Richmond and Carlton next.

Though i do know a few who support and have always supported North for the clours..

Alot more of everything has been going for the filth in recent years. Wait till we start winning. I doubt you would say that the filth had more Greek and Italian supporters in the mid 90's.

The club is obviously spreading its wings far and wide in relation to membership advertising.

There was a big ad on page 11 of the Australian Jewish News today for Carlton memberships.

I;m not the most avid reader, but I can't say I've ever seen a footy membership ad in the paper before.

Carlton is thinking big and thinking laterally. Nothing is out of bounds for the Blues' admin at the moment - Not star opposition players, not star opposition administrators, not potentional sponsor, not potential coaches, not potential fitness guys, not even random ewspapers....We'll have a crack at anything!!!!

And why not, the Blues are coming.......

Since when do Greeks barrack for Carlton? I thought they barracked for Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood. The Italians barrack for Carlton, not the Greeks.
