Wasn't just for the Greek community, the club has an untapped market when it comes to ethnic communities in Victoria, so hopefully it can establish a decent support and fan base throughout the Italian, Arabic, Greek communities that are populate the state.
If that means an extra 3-4k members, then it will be a decent financial return for the club...
I would say this type of promotion is a waste of money. Good idea in 1957 but not 2007. What is the average age of this newspapers readers ... age 50 plus ... so they either like aussie rules or don't ... if they like aussie rules, they either like Carlton or they don't ... basically it is not an "untapped" market. Untapped markets are more your asian, african and arabic as they are more recent immigrants.
What is the level of migration of people from Greece in the last 5-15 years compared to asian, african or arabic immigrants ... see my point.
Believe it or not my uncle is 82, lived in Brunswick since he arrived and has held a membership since the late 60s....He is also a massive Sth Mlb Hellas fan...
But i know a few Greeks and Italians over 60 who have been Carlton members for YEARS....
I reckon were quick to pidgeon hole...
Good idea..... cos they all have kids and grandkids and most of the LAKONES LAKEDAEMONES SPARTANS (all means the same thing)are in Brunswick/Coburg/Carlton... and is a massive Carlton supporter base//
