Elliot ran a company while it was insolvent and the creditors of Waterwheel were the ones to suffer.
He was doing the same to Carlton and if he had been allowed to continue the club would have been destroyed.
The AFL would never have negotiated another contract for Princes Park, it was finished as an AFL venue regardless, the Legends stand was one of the biggest mistakes of the Elliot regime.
but in 2002 Jack already moved us away from there playing some games at the dome. Collo was the one who put us back there for all home games in 03. Let's not rewrite history here.
Ellipt took us to the Dome... by not taking us to the MCG when we had first rights.... instead he almsot had'last rights' read to us ...
Because we could never stay at Princes Park... so Elliot was the doofus!!!
Fair enough but it doesn't hide the fact Collo was a snake. Got us to his dome then jumped ship and left us to rot.
The AFL took us to the Dome.. cos Elliott didnt take us to the G.
Smorgon / Rose/ Malouf and the barrister turfed out Collo for personal gain.... it all really went belly up when those blokes took over... The good thing is that led to the memebers registering their disgust and that led to Pratts return...
So its all good!!!
But Elliotts stuidity and shithouse management almost killed the club.
If you ever get a chance speak to Matheson about what was inherited and what the shock he received the first night they looked into the books.
Matheson is a straight shooter if ever there is one... no bullshit no glitter...
He was a huge ally of Collo and very few others on that board.(Unfortunately they got together not by design but cos someone had to do it))push out Elliott)
Collo didnt run away after the Dome deal.... he lost the numbers to be president and walked away instead of hoing to a vote.. (That he was going to lose) Smorgon always had designs as president and was not waiting any longer...
I think people come to their own 'conclusions' when they dont know what hapened.
The problem with Collo is he was boring.. he was an accountant.. he wasnt trusted by somne people because of his stint with the AFL... and couldnt grow the brand...
But there will come a time that FitzyJ Madden or McKay will let us down... because they have jobs elsewhere..
Thats life......
Suporters dont get that.. but careers and supporting dont always mix...
People forget.. Collo was a 2 time premiership player... and bled and made others bleed for Carlton.. he was the architect of most of our premierships in the 80s .. he was instrumental in bringing us Williams /Kernahan/Motey/Bradley and Stevens..
He was more a CEO in the Swann league of his day...If Collo didnt know about it back then it wasnt worth knowing... probably not presidential material... and of course his life had gone in a different direction when he left.
But its silly to hear people talk.. he doesnt/didnt care!!... very naive... and poor...
