Andain... In what way has The Age in your words"blown past" the Herald Sun? That is just an uneducated, ridiculos comment. The Sunday Herald Sun sells 623,000 copies. The Sunday Age only 200,500. Mon-Sat is a similar margin. The Herald Sun in the number 3 brand in Vic behind only Cadbury and Bunnings. The Age is no.18. The Herald Sun is also the no.1 media brand in Vic. The Age is no.6. In all states except Vic the ABC is no. 1. The Herald Sun has won more PANPA awards than another newspaper in the in the Pacific Region. It is also the newspaper of the AFL. Jon Ralph had an opinion and was looking for a bite. Well done Andain. You gave him his wish.
PANPA Awards are nothing to write home about, they are usually given for design, not editorial quality. Wakely Awards hold a great deal more prestige and the age has won a lot more than the HS. If readership figures are what you're looking at, then you're right. But the HS is a pictorial newspaper and tabloids always sell more than broadsheets in all markets in the world. It does not make it the better newspaper.
The News group's offerings are always below that of Fairfax, West Australian and even APN for that matter in relation to the quality of journalism - and that is by design. The only newspaper in the News stable worth mentioning in relation to the Age is the Australian. Look at the circulation figures for that (as a national) and compare them to the Age as a state-based daily.
