8) Kouta had every right to say what he did in his book and he has been backed by Mathew Allan and Campo. He also maintains that he, as Captain, spoke to Pagan many times about the Leadership Group's concerns about his coaching methods.

It would have been like speaking to a brick wall in trying to get Pagan to change. I was recently speaking to a mate who was a Reserves Coach at the Kangaroos during the 90's. His comments to me mirror what Kouta says about Pagan not being willing to change. This Chap's comments were "that it was Pagan's way or thehighway!"

The real problem was that Pagan never understood the Carlton culture and should never have been reappointed back in 2005. It just shows what an absolute tosser and d*ckhead Collins was.

The real problem was not the playing, it was the completely useless and disfunctional Boards that we had during Pagan's reign.

Could you imagine Dick Pratt, the current Board or, Greg Swann putting up with Pagan's antics. No1 The end result of a competent and tough Administation is there for all to see with Pagan getting the boot last year. As I have the biggest contributor to the Pagan debacle was Collins - the complete and utter flowering idiot who gave Pagan his 3 year contract extension

The real problem was NOT the playing? Fev's on again off again efforts weren't a problem? Whitnall's on again off again weight problems? Lappin's up and down efforts? Campo's wider and wider receiving style of play? Houla's scared football? Russell and Hartlett 's failure to justify their draft picks? Walker's inability to hit the side of a barn with his disposal hasn't been a problem? The Board caused this? Pagan caused this? Stevo's inability to shake a tag?

IF that is all the case then I can expect Fev, Russell, Stevo, Hartlett and Houla to have outstanding years next year. Because the things that made them so up and down (or not even up at all in the case of 2 of them) are gone. Right?

You are just reflecting Kouta's thinking. I hope those left on the list don't think that way. Because THEY were the main reason we failed. They played. They were flowering hopeless. And THEY are the main ones who have to restore it. And if they think that Judd and getting rid of Pagan are all that's needed then they are sadly mistaken.

Yeah you have to laugh at the "swagger is back" carlton supporters....who support Elliot/Sticks.. i remember nobody would touch Carlton under Ellio/Stickst.. and the only guy he could bring to the club was Denis.. with a huge bribe.
We were broke...
We were still over the salary cap...
They delivered us OReilly and Mansfield for a unch of picks including a heap of first rounders.
We had a culture that we owed all our players...and Lance /Campo/Kouta are the last of these...

The club has finaly turned itself around... no thanks to a stack of people...
Including some players!!!

Yep the club as a whole has probably given Wilson acres and acres of good copy over the past 5 years.

And what with her Fred Savage within the club made things a whole lot easier for her to write her bilge.

We look forward to her balanced reporting and equal coverage of the next basket case club in the AFL (Richmond  ) with excitement and anticipation.

That book would have never been released if carlton didnt want it to. The club wanted everyone to know the truth about Pagan, and I dont beleive that its kouta's or any of the playing groups fault that they couldnt give 100% for DP. Thats what the coach is there for, to guide the playing group and get them working together and to keep the spirit up. IMO Pagan failed this miserably and coupled with his shite game plan its no wonder the group were so disheartened. If you look at any sport, once the players loose faith in the coach every thing turns to shit, and unfortunately kouta and co did just that. Thats why as soon as a team starts playing poorly everyone looks at the coach, beacause its his job to make sure that everyone has got faith and respect for him and are willing to do the things he asks. Pagan could'nt do this and as a consiquence drove alot of people away from the club, and im pretty sure that despite his ineptitude is still happy to accept his pay packet from Carlton at the end of the year. Im pretty sure alot of Carlton people would feel a weight being lifted after reading Kouta's book because he is SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT!

Last time I checked we were not living in Stalinist Russia - there is such a thing as freedom of speech which includes the written word - I dont think the Carlton Board are in control of the publishing houses in Australia.

Kouta would have been open to suggestions from people like Tony DeBolfo when chosing what to write. The publishers are footing the bill for the book not Kouta so they would hve as much of a say what goes in it than he would.

You can't blame Caro when she's gifted stuff like this to write about. Blame the 'dingbats' who create these issues.

Theres not much more to play out from these things. its really an exercise in raking through the ashes of history.

Kouta, who has a book to sell, decided to give his take on things.

Agreed - I love Kouta, but this little book incident has been an ugly insight into the selfish side of his nature IMO.

QFT and a spot on article from Caro too.

Kouta pointing fingers .. but he never looked at what his role was in us being THAT shit.

Boy he hated Collo for getting some contracts under control didnt he? I wonder how Kouta believed the club would be under the salary cap when it was way over?

Didnt Kouta care?
Alot of players make sacrifices financally at some point... Koutas contract should have allowed Kouta to make a sacrifice easier than most on behalf of the team.

Also imagine saying "Collo didnt rate us"... 3 wooden spoons in 5 years Kouta... should Collo have paved your path with rose petals ??

These are unbelievable.... no wonder we were shit!!!... but then again we knew why we were shit...!!!.. bt to have it come out of the second worst of all time captain's mouth is perplexing.

Anyway.. ike i keep saying.... im glad that whole sorry episde is finally behind us.

Good point. People like Robert Walls have their name up on the Carlton Foundation chart at Princes Park for giving their own money from 2002-07 to get the club back on track - I can't remember seeing Kouta's name on that list.

Caro made some good points. Kouta took more than he gave. What we need going forward are people that put the team before personal gratification - we need moral soldiers of the highest order.

Kouta had 2 All-Australian years yet was earning more than Riccuito who had about 8 All-Australian years... but according to Kouta the club "owed" him that extra money.

I will never forget what Kouta did 1992-2001 - but all up he took more than what he gave.

Spot on.
And what did he do between 2002 and 2007....SFA.
In my eyes, he was incredible to watch when he was on song...but that ended in '01.
As a captain and as a leader....he failed dismally.
And it is particularly worse when you consider, he failed at a time when the club was crying out for leaders.
In any other era, he would not have been captain....of any club.

Also read Campo's dig...this from a guy who left for more money and screwed the club so that we didn't get any trade for him.
Mate...the more they speak, the worse they make themselves look.
No sense of dignity, respect and humility.

Thank god, we laid a humongous concrete slab on that deep dark chapter and are now writing the start of one of the best.

If you've read my previous posts, you'd know I am about as anti Pagan as you can get....but CARO WAS 100% SPOT ON. Personal accountabiliity and pride against the odds don't exist in Kouta's dictionary. WAS BRILLIANT. IS NOW FIRMLY ENTRENCHED AS A CAPTAIN OF OUR BLEAK, DARK PAST. Bring on '08

I was actually trying not to insult the cow - but if the cow took any offence I humbly apologise.

Oh I see what these people were doing - they were making reference to a cow and trying to draw a comparison with the journalist referred to in this thread, yes I see this now, some would see this as very clever and humorous.

Wow, if I didn't know better I'd think some of you posters actually hate Carlton and champions like Kouta.
