I work in the city - so no problems. Also - being the start of Easter - most people will be knocking off early...but I see your point and ideally this should be a 7.10pm start and not a 'twighlight' game. Can still be changed - depending on the cricket season - this game might not eventuate on the Thursday night anyway.

Shock-horror to see Collingwood travel interstate just the 4 times again.

Since 2000, Collingwood have had just 31 interstate trips to our 36.

What's worse, since 2000 Collingwood have had to do the dreaded Perth trip just 7 times.
How many times has Carlton been to perth? ...........14 TIMES!

I think the idea may have been not to upset the Christians for midnight(ish) mass. The Matins or whatever it's called.

Oh and the double-header.

I'll either knock off work early or go to the ground straight from work.. There's no way I'm going to miss Judd's debut against the 'Box seaters'...
I'm so hoping for a 30+ posession, 5 goal game from Judd... that'll gutter the yellow and black dim whits..

Boohoo.

Isn't it only the Catholics who are into midnight masses?

There is no midvight mass on Holy Thursday/Good Friday.

Midnight mass is on Easter Saturday/Easter Sunday.

And I seem to remember a preseason match against Sydney where we gave them an almighty thumping. OK, they weren't really trying, but it was sure as hell fun!

Im pretty sure that the Scum will again be at Nth Syd unfortunately but I would blow my load so to speak if it was us as Im doing my Level two coaching course there. Still having to analyse all the scums defenciencys will be fun

It was the Filth last year, and the Scum the year before.

Would be nice to think the AFL has enough foresight to rotate the big clubs through this match to get big crowds to Nth Syd.

It's inconvenient for many but I reckon considering the interest in Carlton next year and in particular Judd we could well still get 80,000 plus and one of the biggest tv audiences of the year.

Not a bad way to really launch your membership drive.

Worth the punt I think.

worth the punt? Why not take 'the punt' out of the equation and just start it at a decent time?

Imagine if Cousins goes to the tigers - Judd v Cousins - phew that would be worth a decent time slot

You need to get over this whole Sydney thing KK.

We've had a good run the last few years, apart from the fact that the Swans have flogged us whenever we've played them.

First: NO!

Second, given that Canberra is merely a small satellite city just beyond the outskirts of Sydney, there's a market there which could be utilised, rather than the pissy small-town markets in Adelaide and Perth. Don't tell me that a ton of Canberrans would prefer to stay home rather than come up to Sydney to watch the team play, even if it is for the Who Cares.

The Club has to try and push our brand into every major city every season, whether it be the season proper, or the Who Cares Cup. If we play a Who Cares match up here, then it takes the pressure off having to play up here in the real season, and still leaves Sydney and Canberra (and Wollongong, and Newcastle, etc) fans satisfied that they can go to the footy and see THEIR team play. The Filth and Scum fans get that up here EVERY YEAR.

Maybe if we're lucky, Carlton will be the Nth Sydney Oval praccy match this year.

And I seem to remember a preseason match against Sydney where we gave them an almighty thumping. OK, they weren't really trying, but it was sure as hell fun!

KK, have you ever thought that the Sydney market might not actually hold much potential for our club?

Perth residents, on the other hand, are continually sharing anecdotal evidence that outside of the two local teams that Carlton is the most widely supported club. Adelaide is similar.

On top of that, in regards to your not so subtle dig at Canberra, if I'm going to make the effort to go to a game, I'd rather go to one in Melbourne anyway.

I have some homework for you. Take a look at the other Victorian based clubs and compare their trips to Sydney to ours over the last 5-7 years to see if we are actually hard done by. Looking at halford's figures of 3 games there in the last 5 years I'd suggest that that 5-year cycle is about right for us, if it is indeed a somewhat recurring pattern.

Stop being logical, dammit, Camel! My point, and indignation, is more to do with the fact that we are one of the biggest teams in the comp. Full stop. The AFL wants big crowds at Swans matches. The AFL schedule a guaranteed match with Collingwood and Essendon* as away teams every year. I reckon we should get the same. We may be a big team in Perth, but how about actual numbers of supporters? What's the realistic size of the market there which justifies 2 matches year in, year out? I'm betting not as big as Sydney.

I wasn't having a dig at Canberra so much as stating how close Canberra really is to Sydney these days. It really is not much beyond the outskirts of the city, and with freeway all the way to Northbourne Ave, it's a piece of piss to get there (or here).

The generic market may not be as large, but the actual market (ie. those willing to put their hands in their pockets) is probably comparable, or larger in Perth.

No worries. The drive to Sydney is a doddle these days, to either ground as well.
