I just think people should relax...
we don't know that much officially about the process. We don't know who is playing what type of role on that Selection Committee. We've based our distrust of Gleeson on plenty of rumour and innuendo over what happened with Pagan at the end of last year... but I honestly don't think that any of us really and truly understand what went on there. Maybe Gleeson stuffed it up, maybe he didn't. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see evidence that clearly links him to any form of mishandling of the matter.
Sticks? Do we honestly know what role Sticks will play in this process? I don't rate the decisions Sticks has made over the years, but do we honestly know what role he is currently playing? Is he the one making the decisions, is he an equal on the panel, is he providing the footy experience, is he playing devil's advocate? Who knows...
I could understand the questioning of our decision making last year. We had Malouf and Smorgon in charge for heaven's sakes. But this year, it seems we have put people in to our administrative positions who have great experience and poise, and here we still are sitting around pretending that we (on TC) know the best way to handle all of this. Well guess what guys? Whilst I have doubts over Sticks, I'd still rather have him, Bear Gleeson, Swann, and Icke selecting a coach then leaving it up to a random sample of four of our posters to make the decision.
Look, I admire the people on here that are losing their hair or going grey over this decision. It shows their blood beats Blue. But for once, sit back, relax, and leave it up to the Club to make a decision. When they've made that decision, they can explain how they got there and why they chose the path they did. Then all of you should just sit back, take a deep breath, and keep your fingers away from the keyboard. Because no matter what process they followed, it will be at least 2-3 years before we can judge whether these guys made a good call or not, and typing out posts decrying the selection process on the day the new senior coach is appointed is not doing anyone any favours.
Meanwhile, I might run a market. Who will be the first TC poster to call for a petition to remove Kernahan following the appointment of the new coach?
Just settle down, relax, and forget about all of this. It will work out fine you know

Fantastic post Molly.
Like you I'm a bit concerned about both Kernahan AND Gleeson being on the coaching selection panel. But in reality my concern is based on nothing more than innuendo and gut feel.
While I would feel more comfortable if it was only one of either Kernahan or Gleeson forming a three man panel with Swann and Icke, I'm guessing that all four men on the panel want what is best for Carlton. If they botch it up it won't be because a couple of the panellists just wanted a mate to get the job.
For those worried about the marketing aspect, Ratten is clearly the best option for Carlton on that front, especially now that Voss is definitely out of the picture. Already we've seen he is able to clearly inform the fans and public what he expects from his players. Moreover, he sells his message (so far, at least) in a way that is designed to give supporters hope. Not the excuses that we became used to with Pagan.
Whatever happens, whoever coaches us next year, I have no reason to believe that Sticks, Gleeson, Icke and Swann will not do anything but act in the best interests of the club while researching and making their decision/recommendations.
