Guy Mckenna for me, i think he would be perfect. He has been under the best coach in the game in my opinion, mick malthouse. His young and has done "the apprenticeship" but im really really hoping Guy becomes our next coach. I know that Swann is keen to bring Mckenna, so i hope it happens. But i wouldnt mind voss.

After hearing what Voss had to say about coaching on CH9 Footy Classified in my mind he is the no.1 man for the job at Carlton. Its also handy that he is an assistant coach of the AFL AIS? so he will be able to relate to our kids not just the senior guys.

The one interesting thing is that Voss said he has already got an idea of who his assistant coach's would be. Now this is only a rumour (I repeat RUMOUR) but David Schwarz said tonight that Voss is a certainty to be the coach and Wayne Brittian will be an assistant. I wonder how that will go down if true :?:

Nothing wrong with Brittain. I'd welcome him back.

You wonder how Brittain would mix with Fevola and Houlihan now, but I wouldn't have a problem with him returning

always felt brittain was harshly dealt with at the end of 2002 - would definitely welcome him back.

Somewhat ironic that it sort of completes a circle that was started almost 5 years ago.

I want a fresh team....no previous connections and no nuffies like Grant Thomas...
We want decisions made with no bias or formed from previous judgements....like I have said before if Voss coaches then I want him coaching not falling back on blokes like Thomas and Brittain to hold his hand. If thats how its going to be then get someone else....

Parkin was on Foxtel yesterday, talking about the transition from him to Brittain. Said that Brittain should have got all of the credit for 1999-2000, cause he was effectively coach, but that he received none of it.

I think Ratten's chance was taken when he came to the club this year. If he was elsewhere he would be a front runner. But the question has to be asked as an assistant what did he do or not do to contribute or stop the 120 point humiliation and of course other previous games. Which area is he assisting with and how is it going.

For me I think McKenna is the man, however I would not be unhappy with Voss and feel he has probably already got the nod.

I certainly dont want Brittain back, been there done that. I think is not right that he had bad history with certain players ie Fev & Houla. Fresh Coaching staff should give everyone a clean slate, and have no pre-misconseptions.

I was not impressed with Brittain at all. He never gave Fev a chance, I remember getting frustrated at the lack of game time he gave him. Also someone like Brett Backwell who I thought had a future at Carlton, he never gave him a chance either.

To be fair, Fev was lucky to have had any chances under brittain. By his own admission he was lazy, unfit and didnt put in any effort on the training track.

The whole - 'he loves me' thing following his first meeting with pagan is way overrated - It was more about getting a second chance at an afl career rather than having a coach love him at first sight

Sorry mate, i too liked Backwell but the reality is that Britts saw evrything every other coach saw in Backwell..... Not enough to make it...
Otherwise i'm sure he'd still be playing AFL somewhere and not SAFL...

But good luck to kid .

Brendan McCarthy

This guy is a brilliant coach

So what if he was an average player at Geelong Football League

The guy is brillant with younger men and their development

If you dont believe me, check out the guys coaching record

The players need a fresh new start

McCarthy fits the bill.

Just wondering where the Grant Thomas option is??? 8)

Speaking of Grant - why don't we do the St Kilda thing and have a rotating coach???

We could even have guest coaches for "theme" rounds.....

guy mckenna. if nothing else, at least we're poaching some more personnel from collingwood, which must irritate them.

Buckley on SEN said he would consider the Carlton job if asked....also said that he was'nt ready to coach yet, wanted a break after he'd finished playing. Maybe we could get McKenna with Buckley as his assistant..... now that would really piss off Eddie :)

After assessing all the events of today still think Voss with a strong team is definately a good option for the club. Also like the idea of Mckenna who is tough nut

But lets way up what the club needs most

Look at the team and it is mainly made up of under 25 year old players who are needing a strong leader and mentor someone they have respect for and can learn from. They need a coach they respect will listen to there every word and who they undertsand and have seen have success. Also he would certainly be able to get the players to follow a strong work ethic this would be easy for him to implement as the best example comes from someone who leads by example.

Voss fills these credentials in spades
Most of the kids on the team know of Voss and the respect he commands to his peers. They all know what Voss has achieved and can all look up to his exploits of as shown below interesting to note for a player on Brisbane list funny he is listed as past player.

Awards Honours
JUNIORS: Queensland Schoolboys 1987-1990, Queensland Teal Cup (U17) 1991-92 (Captain 1992), Queensland Teal Cup B&F 1992, Division Two Teal Cup B&F Medal 1992, All-Australian Teal Cup 1992.

CLUB AWARDS & HONOURS: Youngest Bears Player (17 years. 11 days) 1992, Bears Reserves B&F 1992, Bears Best First-Year Reserves Player 1992, Winner Bears/Lions B&F 1995-96-00-01-03, 2nd 2002, 4th 2004 , Bears/Lions Most Professional Player 1995-96-00, 2003, 2004, Member Bears First Finals Side 1995, Lion Cubs Coach 1998, Member Lions’ Ansett Cup New Zealand Tour Party 2001, Lions Co-Captain 1997-98-99-00, Sole Captain 2001-02-03-04-05, Premiership Player 2001-02-03 (Captain), Lions Best Finals Player 2002.

AFL AWARDS: Brownlow Medal 1996, 9th 1995, 3rd 2001, E3rd 2002, All-Australian 1996-99-01-02-03, (Vice-Captain 2001, Captain 2002, 2003), AFLPA MVP Runner-Up 2001, Winner 2002, 2003, AFLPA Best Captain 2000-02, Most Courageous Player 2001.

REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS: Queensland State of Origin 1992, Qld/NT State of Origin 1993, Allies State of Origin 1996, Queensland Team of the Century captain 2003.

MEDIA AWARDS: ABC Player of the Year 1996, Sunday Age/3AW Player of the Year 1996, Age Player of the Year 2001-02, ABC Player of the Year 2001, 3AW Player of the Year 2001, Channel 9 Player of the Year 2001, Australian Football Media Association Player of the Year 2001.

Our young list certainly relate to Voss as an individual.
Voss has proved and achieved everything you can on the field with Premiership / Brownlow / Club awards / Captain out right.

He was a superb comunicator and motivator on the field also led by example to keep the Playing list together organising players to take pay cuts to remain together.

Voss oozes someone who is born to lead and succeed.

End of the day as i did here someone say you can get tactical coaches / skills coaches / player managers but to get a person of what Voss represents to the Blues young list would be Leadership / Media presense / Would attract Out of contract players but also be very strong in keeping our young guns at the club. Certainly we wouldnt have the issue of players not playing for the coach and i am sure he can deliver a message to the young list and they will listen and do.

Also to help with the Voss option he was also there when the Bears where a complete basket case much like the blues this would be invaluable in being able to show the Blues that there is light at the end of the tunnel if you work hard to achieve it you will get results

Very hard to look past Voss if he assembles a strong supporting team could turn around the Blues alot faster than people realise.

Having said all that i wouldnt be dissapointed with Mckenna but still believe that Voss would be the number 1 target of the Blues.
