Finally, i have the feeling that many of our supporters are seeing the big picture and understand the importance of Carlton acquiring the Priority Pick. I think that many of us in here may wish they had voted differently judging by the way our season is panning out.

Heres a chance for the fans to voice their opinions again and see if we are changing our thoughts overall.

If we do indeed get Kreuzer and Cotchin/Selwood plus a new coach, i can see our fortunes changing very quickly.

If tanking means playing the kids like what we seem to be doing then YES.

i reckon the YES is a bit extravagant.
how about you change it to either YES or NO.
also. with the games we have coming up.... there is no tanking needed.

ultimately your point is rubbish anyway. one draft pick is not going to make us a force for the next ten years.

the cancer needs to be cut off at the head. see my avatar.

i will never support deliberate attempts at losing

if we get the picks, the so be it, if we win more games, so be it

but the day i accept trying to lose as something remotely acceptable, is the day i no longer follow the club or the game.

It worked for Colingwood a couple of years ago.

It will do more good than harm to our morale knowing we have another 2 top liners on our list, plus a new coach...I don't think it'll tarnish the brand.

Lets expedite the renaissance.

Did i ever claim to be the instigator of our clubs desire to tank???

Mods, can we please leave this thread with just the poll and no room for posts. All posts can go in the other topic that i created with 36 pages of posts...and counting.

The idea of this poll was just to see if our posters had changed opinions over the last few weeks.

what scotty said.

as long as we try to win everygame then i'm okay with it.

i dont mind if we decide to play all the kids in the last two months, and drop anyone who is slacking in the seniors.

i just dont want us to deliberatley lose games

Or we could just stop starting polls every 5 minutes on topics that are being discussed ad nauseum. You started a new thread, you get a new thread. The other one is now closed.

C'mon, I was nice enough to at least leave a forwarding URL in the old thread. :P

This is so frustrating to be calling out for us to lose games. But the big picture is that the priority pick is vital now. Winning another game will disadvantage us down the track.
I have a feeling though that there is a couple of wins left in us. Denis Pagan will make sure of that because he knows he is a dead man walking.

Best case scenario is for Pagan to stay on until the end of season, players go on strike and lose all 8 games, Pagan gets sacked after Round 22, New coach comes in with Picks 1 and 3 secured.

We shouldn't tank.

Rather, we should 'play the kids' and discover 'season ending injuries' to key senior players that demand immediate surgery so these players are 'right to go' for the 2008 preseason.

You know, like Collingwood did two years ago.

We tanked in 2005, we tanked in 2006, we're tanking in 2007, no doubt we will be sitting here this time in 2008 saying "we can't make the finals, just play the kids and get high draft picks". Then we'll be saying it again in 24 months times, and 36 months time, and on and on and on.

BORING!

I think there should be a third option, because "tanking" to me still infers that we shouldn't be trying to win. There should also be the option to "Play the kids, give them game-time, and what happens happens"

We'd probably still lose each week, and still get that precious PP. But at least I could be satisfied that our team and our coaching staff would be doing everything they can to do their best, and the kids would get great experience along the way. But if they play and are coached in a defeatist manner the damage caused would be well beyond anything another draft pick can fix.

I agree with Lyon, the system needs to be changed.

Garry Lyon's article in todays Herald Sun 100% covers my thoughts on what Carlton has to do.

A great piece of journalism.

IMO, the systematic development of the players we’ve got NOW is the top priority and ranks above the ‘tank’ issue.
Watching Wayne Carey on channel 9 last night mockingly state that Melbourne has a better long term list than Carlton really frustrated me because glib & uninformed views such as his affects the morale of lot of Carlton supporters who are less informed than most of us here on TC.

With thanks to the Mr. Pratt and the CFC Board we now have the offield financial status of the club in a healthy position.
This now is allowing us to put in place a modern day professional player development team.
I believe we have the basic raw structure of an elite playing list and no matter where we finish down the ladder this year we will shortly add at least one more top 5 draft talent.

With professional systematic personal development, the likes of…
Russell, Bentick, Blackwell, Carrazzo, Jackson, Walker, Murphy, Gibbs (running mechanics, disposal technique & offensive strategies)
Hartlett, Kennedy, O’hAilpin, Austin, Waite, Edwards (strength , agility, disposal technique and tactical strategies)
A.O’hAilpin, Hampson, Jacobs (Rucking contest techniques & offensive strategies)
Austin, O’hAilpin, Waite, Hartlett, Bower, Anderson, Thornton, Grigg, Raso, Benjamin (defensive teamwork strategies, link up rebounding offensive strategies)
…will all markedly improve I have no doubt.

We have absolute raw talent, all with huge upside, basically running around with not much of an idea of how and what it takes to be successfull at AFL level IMO.
We have or are about to employ a real development team.
All we need is a newly formed fresh young coaching panel that has a positive personal development philosophy that meshes together to form a collective team orientated spirit to reach the ultimate goal …the 17th.

So basically, out with Pagan immediately, bring in the new Senior Coach and his team together with the new development team and get to work on our young players ASAP.
If that brings wins in the short term so be it, if it doesn’t so be it.

I don't understand how just one extra pick will make us a force for 10 years.

A bit unrealistic, I reckon.

The AFL stiffed us of a proper PP in the "best draft ever" but I don't see that as an excuse to try to screw the system over. If we're genuinely crap then yeah sure I'll be happy...ish. But stuff losing deliverately, Collingwood-style or not.
