If Fevola was dropped like any normal player should be there might have been a mention here or there about the club getting tough. But there would have been far too many other articles that needed to be written on the upcoming games to allow anything like the speculation that has happened during this week.
I disagree Jarusa... the circus we saw the first 48 hours of this would have been replicated on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. And would have totally derailed the club's preparation for the Melbourne match. This way, everyone has their two cents worth early on in the week and the media moves on (even if we don't).
The stories on Fev the last day or so aren't about Carlton, they're about linking other clubs to Fev. The circus has left PP. The rest of the group gets on with the preparation for Melbourne. There's no easy way of taking action of this type with your marquee player. I think the club has picked the best option of an ordinary bunch. and let's not forget who it was who put them in a position where a decision had to be made (and it did - that much is clear).
I'm thinking like an economist in terms of scarcity of resources.
There are only so many column inches and airtime of footy news each week.
It is just common sense that the effect and impact of a particular story will be greater when stories are scarce in the quietest time of the week (big fish in small pond) as opposed to when stories and plentiful in the busy time of the week (big fish in big pond).
It is also common sense that a suspension is a greater punishment than merely being dropped from a team.
Add both of those together and you have a story that is made much bigger than it otherwise would have been.
The club either designed it in a way to get maximum exposure or never thought it through.
