You would hope that Fev shows up Thurs to meet Swann Pagan whoever and says, I can't wait till Monday. I want to be a Blue and I want to play in our next flag.
Whether the punishment is too harsh or not isnt relevant at this stage. Its how fev reacts.
Whether he cops it on the chin and turns himself around or decides that the world is against him and he hasnt done anything wrong. Thats what this is about. Its a challenge of character
Absolutely.
And I'm not surprised to hear snippets of player disenchantment towards Fev. There's some guys there busting a gut to win the ball and get it to his advantage, but it's no secret that we're not the most scientific of teams playing the game, so opposition teams seem to work us out pretty easily therefore making it harder for the guys up the field to win the ball effectively.
On top of that the timing of Fev's initial dummy spit against Freo would have pissed me off no end if I was on the field playing for Carlton. If Fev has a poor start he often drops his bundle for the rest of the game. And his Freo "performance" was no different.
John Worsfold said on Foxtel last night, "you don't need
any player that's not focused on the team's best interests, it doesn't matter if it's Ben Cousins, or your 6th ranked rookie", or words to that effect.
I've defended Fev quite a lot in the past. But I can see where the club, the players, the CEO, the coaches, the board, or whoever was involved in this decision is coming from. It seems winning the Coleman medal was a bit of poisoned chalice for Fev. I reckon he's just expecting things to go his way because he's the "best". It doesn't work like that though, does it.
I wonder if Fev has ever heard the words "continual improvement"?
The challenge has been set, how he reacts will speak volumes.
