I like Libba and believe he gives 100% to the Carlton Footy Club but IMO, the following paragraph encapsulates exactly where our MC is at the moment..
Quote:
What improvements are the coaches hoping for in the remainder of the season?
Our forward structure has been quite good. However, the way our defence and midfield have combined has resulted in a lot of goals being scored against us. Obviously we take the game on a fair bit, which is conducive to getting high scores kicked against you, but that is the style of game we play. So, we just have to make sure our midfielders get back to support the defence as best they can.
Our midfielders and to a lesser extent backs, are playing a largely offensive style of football that requires hard, forward running and rapid ball movement. Our basic requirement is to get the ball inside 50 and give the forwards every opportunity.
Unfortunately, it also gives our opponents every opportunity.
You cant expect players to create, run and be attacking and then expect them to be with their opponents when the ball is turned over.
Its great for the MC committee to have these expectations but the human body has limitations. Especially bodies that dont get the rotations required.
I expect something a bit better than "lets hope the players can give more".
How about the coaches actually come up with a style of play that is sustainable against good opposition. A better balanced mix of offence and defence for starters would be nice but unfortunately its one extreme or the other with Carlton.
"That is the style of game we play" indicates the same ignorant inflexibility that has been there since day one.
