If you have Foxtel Gro, it is replayed...1am tomorrow morning (Tues), and again tomorrow evening, either 5.30pm or 6.30pm, can't remember which.

Fair has nothing to do with it.

We have not drafted a young Ruckman to the club (excluding Hamson and Jacobs) since we drafted Matthew Allan to the club in 1993.

Adam Matthews.

Campbell (200cm+) and Taylor (200cm+)...2 kids...rucking in the firsts... and dominating all B Grader comers. Mmmmm if only.....

I'm only bringing it up because I dont believe that playing all the kids with whole games is the right way to go but Campbell is 25 and Taylor is 24 and 9 months and both of them only started getting matches when their reserves form warranted it... (ie. niether have 70 games under their belt)

At the moment NONE of our ruckmen in the bullants have shown enough form to get a game with Carlton and Aisake is not the immediate answer (at least not yet  )

Also Campbell's only 199cm  sorry for nit-picking :-D

Dannyboy pointed it out yonks ago. He said the success of the non-Victorian sides such as Sydney and West Coast were due largely to thefocus they put on their ruck position. Even BRisbane saw fit to ensure Keating was playing during finals.

Good on Wallsy for standing up and highlighting these incompetences.
All very obvious to most (bar Sticks & Pagan) but good on him nonetheless.

You are correct that you should only pick guys playing in the magoos when their form warrents it, but at the same time when a player at AFL level simply refuses to play at the level required you MUST DROP HIM!!! If Pagan doesn't drop Ackland for the next match, what does it say about our playing group? - that half arsed efforts are acceptable?

The thing is that Ackland did not have one bad game, he has been backing away from the contest all year and it won't change if he is allowed to get away with it.

Sorry bondi. Campbell isn't quite your magical 200+cms. He must just be a stop gap until one of the younger true ruckmen come through.

Thanks for that CM...and I agree that it's preferable for kids, especially ruckmen to do their apprenticeship under the tuition and guidance of a ruck master, as well as strengthen their body to withstand the ultimate physical body assault of any player on the field.

If they are mid 20's and have served an apprenticeship, then power to Hawks for doing the right thing by both of them. This implies that Hampson, Aisake and Jacobs, if they are to make it as ruckmen, need another 4-5 years before they peak (not surprising), then we HAVE tTO POACH a competitive, ready made ruckman NOW.

Shit, you again...you always catch me out.

Look I he looked as though he was 210 cm against Ackland on Friday, so he musn't be far off 200 cm. Haven't got time to check, but will later....he better not be 199.7cm Mordan! Regardless, if he's under 200, he's under 200. Cheers Mordan...keep on keeping on!

Put it this way he looks the minimum size for a ruckman, and if he's what you call a B Grade ruckman, a stop gap, then it must be obvious to everybody that Ackland is a C Grade ruckman...what have we become?

A 3 year contract for a reject ruckman is a very poor deal.

Back in 2001 we traded Mark porter for Corey (hot and cold) McKernan and kept matthew (ouchy foot) Allan.
Porter was great value, he always tried his heart out and would actually win a few contests. And his debut vs the Bombres was awesome

I'll never understand why we didn't draft Cameron Wood in 2004.

No.

Bryan refused to accept a reasonable offer from Carlton as he'd been nobbled by the Pies.
Unless we wanted to pay a stupid amount, it was out of our hands.

plus yhe is just another 195 cm bit part ruckman without the necessary tools to forge out a real career.

Agree.....we have messed around with bit part type ruckman for years now and got nowhere.

re: Bryan....seen him in a couple of Collingwood games and he is still the same player, lazy, and not smart enough at senior level....Collingwood will delist him....

Well thats what 10 meaningless wins did to us in 2004 it limited our choices and prolonged our chronic deficiencies.

Although granted we could have selected Cameron Wood prior to Jordan Russell in that draft.
