This is'nt a favourite game of mine, just one that has stuck in my head for years and years.
Problem is i remember very little of it.
Was against Nth Melbourne circa '88 '89 (could be wrong) at Princes Park.
We were down by about 16 odd points with like 3 mins left. We left the Social club as we thought it was game over and by the time it took to walk from our seats to gate 1 we had slammed on 3 goals to win by a few points
Gleeson kicked the winner with seconds left before siren.
Does anyone recall this game??? Its been doing my head in for all these years.
Snickers I recall this game perfectly, 34 minute mark, bear roved the ball perfectly off the pack to slam it through from close range, crowd goes crazy siren goes and North are left complaining about the time keeper. was definately in 1989 - I sat behind the goals where the winner was kicked.
Nah that game was definitely 1988. I was 8 years old at the time and had kicked up a bit of a stink about Carlton 'losing' and was sitting on the couch all down about it when my brother raced in saying that we'd won. I had fallen for a few tricks in my time but I wasn't going to fall for this one so I told him to go and get stuffed. He insisted I turn on the radio and check so I did and then did a little dance and ran down to the park with my footy to kick around.
Anyway this is a great thread guys, many of the games you've brought up would go close to making my top 3, but to make it hard for myself I'll pick three games no one else has mentioned, hardly the three most famous in Carlton's history but special for me:
1) 1996 vs Geelong, rd 22 at KP. 1996 had been a frustrating season in many ways, and would definitely end that way in the finals, but this game was quite special. My brother and I did the trip down to Geelong and stood in the outer and just had the most fantastic day. We were expected to lose this game but we belted them in the end, I think Murphy got 5 goals that day. Boy was it a good feeling driving home after that game
2) 1993 vs WCE, Carlton win by 1 point. Another memorable Subi game, whilst I didn't go to this one I almost died watching it on telly. The ball unluckily came off Sexton's boot and went out on the full in the forward pocket with 6 seconds left. Mainwaring, in the 'right' pocket for a left footer, ran around and snapped.....and hit the post. Unbelievable. Siren goes a second later and the Blues win by 1 point.
3) Waverley 1990, we beat the reigning premiers Hawthorn by 11 goals and I play in the little league at half time (for Hawthorn incidentally). Was a very exciting day all round, we absolutely ran rings around the Hawks that day.
By the way, a few people mentioned that game against Richmond in 2000 when we thrashed them to keep them out of the finals, but remember shattering their finals chances in 1994 as well, the week after the eagles thrashing? It was at PP and we beat them by 113 points, with mad dog kicking a lazy 7...the ground was absolutely packed to the rafters that day.
Another special game watching on tv was beating the crows at footy park in 98 by 4 points. I had gone through a pretty tough patch personally and it was just what I needed at the time.
