Carlton legend and investment banker Mike Fitzpatrick has accused the AFL of breaching promises to Colonial Stadium investors, which, he said, was preventing the troubled facility from rebuilding itself financially.
Fitzpatrick, founder and director of Hastings Funds Management, a big shareholder in the development of the $460 million Docklands venue, said the AFL had broken two promises, contained in the original agreement between itself and Stadiums Operations Ltd, in ensuring that fixturing would lead to average crowds of 40,000, and that the league would not develop or redevelop any other stadium in Melbourne. SOL chief executive Ian Collins has been repeatedly instructed to warn the AFL of its broken promises on behalf of his directors.
