Mallee you have put well thought out valid points, what do you think would happen if a petition was put to the AFL on that basis? Wouldn't take long at all to get 100,000 sigs, just go to games that don't have the filth or the scum playing. Would the AFL have to cave to the demand of the fans?
I think that the push needs to come from a number of areas:
1. The other 14 clubs
2. The media
3. The supporters
and probably in that order.
The AFL will more likely listen to the clubs before it listens to the fans. However, if there is a ground-swell of support from the fans then the media and the clubs will pick up on it and make it known. The media like nothing more than a new angle/a new story.
Wayne Carey on Monday night's LA Confidential expressed his strong view that the Anzac Day game should be shared amongst the clubs. He needs to convince others in the media to have the same view.
It is no good to say that Collingwood and Essendon* started it. So they should reap the benefit and other clubs should find another day. There is no other day. Collingwood and Essendon* have had their time in the sun without the pressure from other clubs. Now is the time to share it around.
So to answer your question a petition may be an idea. However, to get the best impact all of the other 14 clubs need to be behind it. Then you will get real pressure on the AFL to change it.
