Most of the posters here actually dont even wish Lance well, thats my big problem...
Yeah, that's right. Just like George Harris took perverse enjoyment in
telling Big Nick - the champion of all Carlton champions - that his time
was up in 1974... just like Parkin having to tell champions such as
Glascott, McConville etc that their time was up... yeah we are all really
enjoying the ride of Lance's career.
Lance can look back and say he played 200 games for Carlton. Most
players don't get that far. That is an achievement he can gain pride from,
but I will tell you what motivates me before I ride off into the sunset .. I
believe passionately that the team comes before any individual. No
individual -whether it is Jezza or Nicholls or anyone else - should come
before the team.
Do you know why I have posted about Lance? Fear. I can handle a
schellacking from Geelong - a record breaking schellacking - just... i can
handle Thompson's belittling press conference after the match... I can
handle Richmond beating Carlton by 100 points last year, I can handle
kicking 4 goals against St Kilda last year, I can handle North winning by a
record margin over the Blues, I can handle all those records tumbling
over the last four years - but I am not under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES going
to sit through Essendon* caning Carlton. That is the last straw for me. Of
course it might not happen, but I need a break from the craziness of
the situation at Carlton.
Whatever happens Essendon* is a team that is improving - they are
playing their youngsters... while we are still in the twilight zone. That
hurts.
I am giving myself a bit of a break from Talking Carlton from this
moment on. You tough supporters can carry on the good fight.
