1. 1979 Carl v Coll at Princes Park. Over 46,000 crammed in. We were down & out (well Jezza was!) but the crowd roared us home kicking down the Heatley End.

2. Any number of those inspired 3rd quarter comebacks of the late 70's and early 80's - Parkin coined them the "premiership quarters"

3. As above.

Easy ...

1970 ... Grand Final of the century ... what can I say
1972 ... High Scoring victory against all odds (not one media person picked the blues) ... it was magic ... strategic plans laid down by big nick.
1979/1981/1982 Grand Finals or 1999 Prelim. Probably 1979 (1999 was great ... arise Sir Lancelot etc) .. but the fact we had Hamil playing for us has turned me off it.

1. 1999 Prelim - yes, it SHOULD be about grand finals, but what a game and I was proud to be there. My best day at the footy, without a doubt. 8)

2. 1982 Grand Final - as a teen, watching a naked woman chase B Doull around with a Carlton scarf was priceless. :-D

3. 1995 Grand Final - Absolute GOLD. 8)

i haven't seen too many great ones but here's my top 3:
1-Essendon, '99 PF
2-Adelaide, '04 R11
3-Collingwood, '04 R22

i would have had the geelong game where we came back from heaps down and riccardi kicked that goal that was touched after the siren but because we lost i didn't.

Apart from the obvious (GFs in 1970, 1972, 1982, etc):

1. Carl vs Ess at Windy Hill c. 1976. We kicked a record 14 goals in the 2nd quarter, fights all over the ground, Craig Davis was knocked out 3 times, 8 players reported, Swan McKay kicked 8 goals. Awesome!!!!
2. Carl vs Haw at Princes Park, Round 2 1969. We kicked record 30.30.210. Jezza kicked 7. We kicked 12 in last qtr, including 4 from Crosswell from the wing!!!
3. Carl vs StK at Moorabbin round 1 1969. Syd Jackson's first game, kicking 50 metre drop kick goals on the run. We knew there was something special about to happen.
4. Carl vs Rich at Princes Park some time in the 70s. Wallsy kicked 10 goals, slotting them from all angles. Many people these days have no idea how good a player he was.

1. 72 GF - I was sitting directly behind the goal, second row at the city end getting a sore neck from watching the ball fly over my head.

2. Carl vs Haw at Princes Park - the record score 30.30.210.

3. 1995 GF - not so much the game as the culmination of an unbelievable season.

This is a great trip down memory lane.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned but have to put in mentions of the following

1982 Vs Hawthorn. As I recall we were 6-7 goals down at half time and a 10 goal third quater led by Ashman, Buckley and co in the midfield put us up to go on to a comfortable win. It also shut up the Hawthorn supporters who were around us in the outer.

1995 Vs Hawthorn. We had lost the previous two games to Sydney and st Kilda (the only ones we lost that year). My dad had just run the Melbourne Marathon and was very ordinary after it. I told him we should miss the footy so he could recover. He was totally against it and after I talked my way in to drop him next to the President's car, I parked near the Uni and ran back to Optus to find my dad still hobbling up to our seats in the Gardiner Stand. A sublime display including 4 goals to Mil Hanna had us up by 10 goals at half time. Nothing like good footy to aid recovery...

1995 Prelim Vs North. After finishing 4 games clear on top and then struggling a little against Brisbane in the Qualifying final I was a little worried about this one. Memories of the finals losses in 94 came flodding back. Brown Dog and Peter Dean were crunched in the first quater and although we were up at half time with Earl Spalding doing well I though we were in a little trouble as North looked to be running better. In the third quater there were very few goals (maybe 1 or 2 to them). I was worried at 3/4 time that a spectacular season was going down the tube. Then came the final quater onslaught. Seven goals to none and we were going to the GF. I remember Glenn Manton kicking (one of) the sealer(s). Great stuff

2008 GF - Not sure what stands out the most but certainly Fev's 7 goals straight, Walker's run along the boundary bouncing 6 times and then slotting it from the impossible angle with a wrong foot banana, and Murph's smother, one handed pickup, shrug off of the tackle and calmly passing to JFK alone in the goal square for the 10th goal of the 2nd quarter were highlights.
I liked Bryce's 60m torp on the bell for the third quarter. Made it harder for The Filth to scrapback the unanswered 10 in the last! And Murph's crunch on that one-time flower pretty-boy Thomas ..

I remember that game well.

It was pelting with rain.

Came up with a very lame excuse not to go to a wedding.

Sat under a blue tarp to avoid getting bogged.

Hoped to God the TV camera's didn't catch me sitting under tarp so that my lame excuse didn't come crumbling around my ears.

It was also the night that Carey, went on his little grope of some girl [Matthew Primus' present wife, I think] after the loss in the wee hours of the morning. Told her she needed to get bigger boobs! What a man!

Nothing wrong with that at all. Great man is Wayne.

I have thought long and hard about this and its been very difficult to narrow down Carlton's 3 greatest wins.

Any poster of my vintage will know that going to Princes Park on a Saturday Afternoon during the late 70s to mid 80s was a fantastic experience.

You would go to the football not HOPING to win, but you would go KNOWING you would win, it was sensational times - the cocky opposition supporters crowing at 1/2 time because they were 2 or 3 goals up or even 2 or 3 goals down thinking they still had a chance to win.

Carlton would then respond with an 8 to 12 goal quarter and have the game wrapped up at 3/4 time.

Project for Jarusa - our win/loss ratio from 1978 to 1985 at Princes Park. :P

But I will take a shot at my best 3 Carlton Games relating to how affectionately I remember them and what they mean to me.

1. 1972 Grand Final - because Dad took me and my sister, dont know how he got the tickets - pretty sure they were scalpers, but dont remember how much - he got 2 adult tickets and was able to bring me an my sister in on 1 adult ticket (try doing that today  ).

It was the first final I went too - and I had hated Richmond since those bastards beat us in the 1969 Grand Final.

I had a Carlton Jumper with Number 2 on the back (Big Nick) and I waved it in the air after each Carlton Goal (28 of them 8) ).

2. 1979 Grand Final - this is the Grand Final where I got in on a 60cent junior ticket (as a 17 year old) under cover in the old Northern/Olympic Stand, smuggled in a couple of bottles of champagne and celebrated profusely with my cousin.

Went to school on Monday Morning and made up for 6 years of crap I copped at High School where Carlton's lack of success was driven home to me constantly by the majority of Collingwood supporters - who up till then had not won a flag in 21 years. curious lot arent they.

3. Has not been played yet - but it will be the Grand Final we win when I am sitting with my children Miss Agro and Master Agro.
8)
If the NAB Cup wins are anything to go by then this win is going to be particularly sweet  - and will be followed by a detour to Princes Park after the game via AFL House where appropriate slogans will be daubed on their front doors.

without reading too much of this thread, and beacuse i have seen many many more games over the telly than in the flesh - especially carltons wins i'd have to say that these are three of my more enjoyable.

obviosuly the 99 prelim is a given.

i cant remember the round exactly (12, 15?) in 1995 when we beat the Cats at PP by 4 points in a see-sawing battle.
Braddles diving to rush a ball over the line probably saved the day.

Relly enjoyed that game.

the round 22 1 point win over the pies in 2004 at the time was pure bliss - in hindsight it holds little relevance.

a couple of other wins that stick out (sorry couldn't narrow it to three) the 4 point wins againt the crows at footy park - both in 98 and 2004.

2000 smashing of the lions at the gabba lance kicked 9, kouta three and was everywhere.

also the last game we played at kardina - belted the cats on the eve of the 96 finals.

sos towelled up gazza, sticks was great and justin murphy had a field day.

1998 vs Western Bulldogs at PP.

Beating the 'top dogs' by 80 points was probably my favourite all time match at PP. Going into the rooms after the game made it even more special, and got to overhear Ronny De Iliou complaining to Sticks about "that prick Simon Garlick" who was apparently harrassing him the whole game (he sounded like a kid talking to his dad about getting bullied at school).

finally! i was just about to post that.

unfortunatley the game wasn''t the televised game for the day but i remember jumping around the house like a retard when when i saw we had scored 118 points to half time!!!

bought that game on tape shortly after. the second half of 98 was fun as the finals were well gone but we upset a lot of teams smashing the dogs, pies and power to name a few.

think lance bagged 8, ronnie 4 and sammy 4 also.

i guess i've been a bit luckier than i first thought having attended a few of the games mentioned.
us beating the tigers in 95 in fronth of 85 thousand screaming fans (harry's 300th) - that was my second game the first was the week before when trailing the crows by 33 points at PP we manged to win by 33.

saw kouta single handedly destroy the kangas to take us to 10 and 2 half way through 2000.

also saw the 04 1 point win against the pies.
the last win at PP the week before (carrots debut)

and the 97, 2005 and 2007 nab cup wins.
plus the last game at PP
not bad really.

Great first post, ACR. I also hold all of these games as among my favourites.

The one against Hawthorn... gee ... there was no let-up on that onslaught in the first half. Great, ruthless footy in that match.

mmm.. top 3 - how do you choose that - I guess one could say the 3 matches they have watched the most. In that case it would have to be out of these matches (with a possible inclusion of others involving favourite players such as Wayne Harmes etc.):-

1) 1987 grand final - this match is a undervalued treasure.

2) 1982 grand final - Johnston, Harmes - the whole team - brilliant.. and when Marcou scored the sealer. Pure ecstasy.

3) 1995 Rd 22? vs Essendon* - Essendon* were out to damage our morale in one of the final matches before the finals as they had done the year prior.

This time the Blues were up to the challenge and destroyed the Bombers.

Sounds like a cracking game.

Care to add a line or 2 on Braddles dive?
