Waite is still young. He's got his body right ATM. If he can maintain the fitness (fingers crossed), this year should be his first of many real BIG ones, and past good performance should have only been a glimpse of what this guy has the potential to do for 100 minutes of football.

He's a freak. Stick him on the wing, and let him float into the forwardline. He's got the engine for it.

I understand why some people become disillusioned with Waite:

*doesn't keep his feet in a contest
*missing shots at goal
*injury prone

but I believe that suggesting he's not as good as we think is too broad too respond to directly.

As for 'me' what I consider is:

*he's a footballer
*he's 194cm and very athletic
*turns 24 in 2007
*can play wing/midfield has the stamina
*impossible for anyone to avoid injury
*can't play good games whilst injured
*has had 2 injury interrupted preseasons
*difficult match up for the opposition
*busts his gut everytime he chases an opponent
*alot of upside notwithstanding injury

Since his debut as a kid of 20 in 2003
*has won brownlow votes
*played mainly forward in the lowest scoring team in the comp
*kicked 40 goals in a season in 2005 at 22 yo
*represented Australia vs Ireland
*kicked 5 goals in a match
*has not been developed to by great coaches
*lost his father and Carlton great Vin

There is too much upside with Waite to discount. He is still young, and there aren't many 20-23 yo that can match his achievements.

So what's the upside?

2007= 24yo
2008=25yo
2009=26yo
2010=27yo
2011=28yo
2012=29yo
2013=30yo

We get a 10 year player if he continues to develop and stays injury free. I can see Waite taking the FF position if Fev is injured or retires before him. In the meantime, if we give him a position to make his own and start to build a team. I suggest the 6' 4" wimgman.

Some people are too harsh on the kid.

He's not as bad as some think.

I don't think that he is a bad footballer - he is just not as good as everyone thinks.

2 years ago We all thought he would be top 5 or top 10 at the club. Sits around the 13-18 mark IMHO and with more height and pace coming in to the club this year will need to be more consistent to hold his place.
I hope that he can because when he is on song he can cause headaches -

I really hope that Waite takes the next step.

For me he is the most frustrating player in our side, has unreal athleticism but sometimes flies or flops for when it isnt required.

I must say i do think he is over rated. Dont get me wrong i think he is a good player, but thats it, good player. I get annoyed when people say he is a superstar, because he hasnt been consistent enough to be called a superstar.

Lets hope he can take the next step and become a consistent contributor. Id love to see him on a half back flank or wing, because he cant kick a goal for s*&t so get him up the ground.

Superstar = Lance Whitnall.... clearly our best player by a mile
