You certainly put a lot of effort into your posts Brizzy and I particularly enjoyed reading this one.

I disagree with a couple of things but...meh....I'm in no position to argue.

Was just a sweet sweet read. :) (I'm full of hope now....)

Anyway, back to your list. It is a joke. Is your list based on current ability, potential or trade currency? If it is current ability then Whitnall would be top 3. If it is potential then Gibbs would be top 3. If it is trade currency then it is anyones guess at this stage because a third of the players we haven't really seen. How you can seriously have Fisher and Waite ahead of Whitnall in any criteria is laughable.

FFS, lighten up chookhead! Maybe you could spend the time and post something constructive yourself, then everybody can shitcan your thoughts.

I don't really have the time to repeat what has already been said before. You should realise that so large a post will attract favour and criticism. This is a democracy and I am entitled to have a different opinion to your own. Don't take it personal.

For what it's worth I'll give you my top 10 players now... not potential because you could justify any pick on potential.

1. Fevola
2. Scotland
3. Whitnall
4. Murphy
5. Stevens
6. Walker
7. Simpson
8. Thornton
9. Lappin
10. Houlihan

Criticise away...

Thanks Guys. Yeah plenty of research and time to put some of my posts together, but keep in mind it is all only opinion. On the subject of football discussion: Surely not on a football forum?

No I didn't have too many. I just get tired of rehashed threads and talk of players with potential. We all know that we have players with potential. It is a bit silly to rank them when they have barely played.

I met a girl last night and in the course of discussion she asked me what football team I barracked for. I hesitated while trying to think of the best line for the situation and she laughed and said that she bet that I barracked for Carlton. It did not matter that she barracked for Essendon*. She was laughing at us. I said that we were just collecting all of these good young kids, blah blah blah, and that we will be back one day. However, that is not a good enough answer. We need to be despised again for being a club that is arrogant because of our outstanding success. For your information the girl was a good kisser. 8)

There are only two ways to do these lists. Either:

a. Which players would you pick if they would only play for you next year.

1. Fevola
2. Stevens
3. Murphy
4. Walker
5. Thornton
6. Simpson
7. Gibbs
8. Scotland
9. Whitnall
10. Lappin

b. If Carlton folded and all the players were available in a draft happening tomorrow what order would you take them in.

1. Gibbs
2. Murphy
3. Walker
4. Kennedy
5. Fevola
6. Thornton
7. Hampson
8. Simpson
9. Grigg
10. Stevens

I loved the post Brizzy. Didn't agree with probably half of it, but well written, entertaining and some good footy thoughts too. And I agree with Carlton God that you can rate our "best " based on different criteria.

So my best 10 based on the future and potential (for the next 3-5 years) are:

1. Murphy
2. Walker
3. Gibbs
4. Simpson
5. Kennedy
6. Bower
7. Thornton
8. O'Hailpin, S
9. Russell
10. Betts

Our 2007 best 10, based on most valuable to the team are:
1. Fevola
2. Stevens
3. Murphy
4. Whitnall
5. Walker
6. Simpson
7. Thornton
8. Scotland
9. Waite
10. Gibbs

Gibbs is obviously a prediction rather than based on what i've seen in the past.

I think the 2007 B&F will be very close to this.

thanks BB - my only qualm is that i don't think judgments can be made on players who have not performed yet (the new draftees)

Great read, I always like looking at the upside of our players.

But it really doesnt matter a lot about how our players are ranked.

Although there will be improvement in 2007, next year will be a difficult one.

The improvement in player and team is happening, but it wont be reflected in the number of wins we have until 2008 or 2009.

However, this long and very hard process will eventually build a team of players who are mentally tough enough to go all the way in the future.

I'm too lazy to make a full list, or even a top 10 for that matter

So here are my top 5's.

Top 5 in order of importance in 2007:

1: B Fevola - with an improving defence and better supply from midfield, if he produces to the same level as 06 then it will be enough to lift us out of the bottom 3.

2: N Stevens: Although our midfield has vastly improved, stevo is still the leader of the group. Chances are he will be tagged heavily again, he needs to give strong leadership for the kids and set the right example week in week out.

3: C Ackland: With the improved midfield Ackland needs to give them at least a 50:50 chance of winning out of the middle. If he can give a solid supply to our mids our team will vastly improve.

4: B Thortnon: Again the defence is improving, but he will again take most of the responsibility down there. Needs to continue to improve and offer leadership in the back half.

5: L Whitnall: The likely captain, with such a young group he will need to offer leadership in all areas, on and off the field. In our squad he should also be in or pushing for the top 5 in the B+F.

Top 5 potential stars:

1: B Gibbs, we all expect him to be something special and in all liklihood he will lead our midfield for the next decade.

2: M Murphy, what a duo, murphy and gibbs, the only thing stopping either of them from winning the brownlow will be each other stealing votes.

3: J Kennedy, our next CHF.

4: P Bower, our next CHB.

5: S Hampson, our best rucking option since aggots.

5 players playing for survival:

Wiggins, Bannister, Teague, Raso, Hartlett.

Raso and Hartlett also have huge potential and could easily cut it at AFL, while Wiggins has started to cement his spot and needs to continue the good form in order to keep it.
Bannister and Teague really need to lift.

Raso could easily make the grade you say?

He cut a lonely figure last time i saw him with his arm in a cast, looked like a dead man walking....
