I just don't understand this mess.
The salary cap is $1.2M. Kouta's backended contract has ended, and is now reportedly contracted for $300K for one season. French gone, Campo gone, 20 kids that would be on less than $100K, where's the room in the salary cap gone?
Fev $450?
Stevens 400?
Kouta 250? ...ends 2007
Whitnall 300? ...ends 2007
Lappin 250? ...ends 2007
Waite $300?
What's going on?
Synbad keeps harping on the money tied up with Kouta and Whitnall on our books, when it could be better spent on our future, but there's also other issues he raises too: facilities, development, culture....things are not well at Carlton. We need common sense to prevail.

If we are only now offering Thornton $210K, what have we been paying him? No wonder he's always cracking the shits!
I agree with this Knackers. What was he on over the last 2 years? Shit I don't want to guess. Great if we could sign him for $210K and I thought we could, but if he's worth between $250-$300 for us right now, and 3 years for a 22 yo, then that is reasonable IMO. FFS sign him up at $250-300K for 3 years.
Lappin and Kouta will definetely be gone end 2007; Whitnall will be due for recontracting (on less)...there will be heaps more room made available end 2007, and this should be considered in negotiations.
I'll be pissed off if Thornton leaves.
We've got to keep our good kids, and at 192 cm and 22 yo with over 50 games under his belt, Thornton is Gold for Carlton circa 2006-9. He is the future; but not god!
I'd like to know where all the money is going, and for how long?
Most arguments about players value is based on the on field performance, but I bet if we started to look at what they are all being paid, then this would put a different slant on the argument. Other times we discuss how a player is cheap because he didn't cost us a high draft pick, but have they cost us in another way?
Need to start a thread under Talking Players just focussing on the salaries and terms of contracts of each player, this would give posters a better perspective of each players value / burden to the club.
