Id love to know how many goals Whitnalls opponents kicked this year....
Ah but Synners I thought he had no opponents...and no role...
Well obviously its clear he doesnt as he just lets his opponent unaccounted for.. and he needs his opponents HANDPICKED for him!!
His fitness went down and Rocca smashed him, when Whitnall had previously done a good job on him earlier in the year.. There are many examples! His first half was good but he really went down the gurgler in the 2nd half!
Might have something to do with Whitnall's diet and once again not taking the issue SERIOUSLY!! Well, he can enjoy his Krispy Kremes now!!!
Facts would be nice why let that in the way for a good laugh. Taking cheap shot only gets you so far.

But stats can be meaningless! Like Synbad said, I wonder how many goals Whitnall had kicked on him..??
His tackle count is another blight on his performance which shows a lack of accountability.
Sure, Whitnall was OK this year.. but far from our Best!
The bad things evens out alot of the good things he does on the field..
Trade him to the dees for a 2nd round pick or if theyre desperate enough, a round 1 pick! Now thats forward thinking and looking to the future!
WHITNALL is a has-been!
This guy just won a B & F for my club. He's peaked and he's only 27.
OK Synners may have a point in that he is SELECTED to be the loose man in defense and it suits him; no opponent etc. But don't go bagging him, second guessing that his opponent may have had more possessions and goals against him (asking with convistion or inuendo) when he's loose. Why do you think Fevola has had 2-3 opponents against him this year. Where's their opponents?
You can't have it both ways. Whitnall was either:
exceptional at reading the play and plugging holes where needed; using his height, weight, timing and marking skills to ffect, or
beat his opponent on the day,or
was beaten by his opponent on the day,or
was soundly beaten by his opponent, or
he was beaten by his opponent in the 1st Q or 2ndQ till his was swithched to the forwarline and was one of Carlton's best players.
There's 22 rounds of footy. A whole season of scenarios. He marked the ball more that 90% of AFL players...and so on. He had a good year.
He was beaten IMO once this year against the Swans, round 22. But as I keep telling myself whilst watching the game, he made position, he used his body, but he wasn't put in a situation where he was beaten by pace, strength, height or weight in that game. He played where and how the coach wanted him to, and the rest was destiny. He won the 2006 B&F.
Don't worry, Lance is capable of fulfilling realistic roles he is given anywhere, anytime, when he's fit, at least till end 2008. But whatever he is, he fits in somehow in this game of Aussie Rules one way or another; whether it's brain, body or both. He's got the x factor. One thing, he's not a rover.
Other than trade him, most commentary has been negative toward's Whitnall's back half positioning, which happens to be a decision made by his coach. Most posters preferring him to be playing in his 'rightful' position in the fowardline (any forward position). The main reasons for that have been: he can make position to our advantage; can give make our forwadline a 2-3 prong attack; can use his brain to isolate opportunities for himself or Fev, and others to advantage, and he would teach the kids in Kennedy in particular (and Fish, Waite...) the ropes of the game and the forward line; and, or, hasn't got the pace for a back half position.
Well the most important thing Carlton can do before he goes (and maybe returns later) is to extract that knowledge of this game he can impart to our 30+ kids before he's gone in the next 2-3 years (whilst th kids have another 7 years ahead of them). IMO he's got a better footy brain than Pagan, and probably just about anyone; but that's in front of him...and that is of use for CFC.
Right now, 2006, he has won the B&F in a position not playing in his best position. I wish I could do that. What I do know is that there's a HUGE difference between athletes and footballers. It's really what this game is about. That's what Whitnall is about. He's a footballer first.
Think about it, you can't have a team with the same type of player. It doesn't work. It takes many types to make a great team. Whitnall is not a tackler, probably because he's using his body to mark the ball, or he's trying to bust the pack. You can't do that and rove as a defender. He's not a rover. He's more of a body to body player, shepherder, tap on expert.
Appreciate him for what he is. This year, an opponentless defender that won our B&F. Consider that he has a big role in our club and you will see it; it's in his righful position fully fit. He's past trading, especially if he gets the captaincy, and therefore he's ours. If that's the case then I want him positioned to our best advantage, to make the most of him whilst he's still playing; whilst he's still here.
Lance should play FP in 2006, playing to the wing as he sees fit, and coach and position Kennedy, Waite, Fish, Fev, Hartlett and everyone else so that we kick a winning score, and build a winning team. He may be BV's playing-forward coach over the next 1-2 years.
Give us a couple more years like this one, but in the forwardline, till the end of 2008 and I'll be more than happy. Who knows, he may play his 250th in 2009. Just make sure you let the the coach know where best to play him to our advantage in the meantime, and you'll be much happier.
Whitnall for playing forward coach 2007.
Go Blues.
