I got bored and went to bed last night. So let me get this straight:
1) Brown offered to pay out Pagan if he was replaced by Mitchell and the old boys club.
2) At least half the board didn't think this was the right option, and would prefer the club to go through a proper process if they're replacing the coach.
3) They can't guarantee Pagan's position because nobody really wants him to stay (if we think this whole debacle has made Pagan's position untenable, they probably do as well).
4) So they are now going off and working out if they can afford to pay Pagan out without Brown's money.
Sounds to me like the board is doing exactly what the supporters would want/expect them to be doing, as many have articulated on this site in the lead-up. It's the politicking and back stabbing by this cabal of past players, with Sticks at the heart of it all, that I find disturbing.
I think your'e right nightcrawler, but my views on 1 aspect are different. I believe that its a very good thing what the past players have offered to do and very good that their up & running enough to put a funded proposal to the Board to hopefully benefit the Club. If only we had more people doing this.
Theres always going to be politicking but as long as they are trying to benefit the Club... I say Go For It.
I suppose it's a question of whether they're doing it because they love the club, and honestly believe they and Mitchell could coach it better (hey, a lot of people on this site of said that in the heat of the moment before!), or whether they're doing it because they see the club as their personal plaything and they just want to get themselves back in the door.
If it's the former, and they're confident that Mitchell is the right guy, then he should stand up in an open recruitment process.
