I suppose it's a question of whether they're doing it because they love the club, and honestly believe they and Mitchell could coach it better (hey, a lot of people on this site of said that in the heat of the moment before!), or whether they're doing it because they see the club as their personal plaything and they just want to get themselves back in the door.

If it's the former, and they're confident that Mitchell is the right guy, then he should stand up in an open recruitment process.

No aspiring gun coach is coming to a club like us...

People are kidding themselves if they think we have options....
Mitch would be put into place because he would do it.. because he understands where were at.. and the kids need an environment to enjoy.

Getting a big namer to deflect responsibility from the board ju7st wont happen.

I find that difficult to believe. There are only 16 senior coaching gigs in the country, and vancancies only open up every 2-3 years. There will always be a reasonable field of candidates.

The fact the board didn't make a decision last night is not a big issue for me, but it is a problem how disorganised and divided the administration is at present.

The leaks, the amateurish review and the indecisiveness with respect to retaining Pagan is bad for all people involved with the club, whether it be supporters or those within.

It was an atrocious situation in 2002, but I feel we are in a worse state now:

* finances are as bad, if not worse from a revenue perspective
* on-field performance is about the same
* there is even less unity off the field than four years ago, and I never thought that possible.

FWIW I believe that last night was the club and Pagan just negotiating the settlement and they couldn't come to terms. So at the end of it they have agreed to meet again to come to terms. Or the board just couldn't agree on who the new coach should be and will sound out other options.

I agree with most on here that it is disapointing we didn't get an answer last night but the other view is that they are taking all the time necessary to make the correct decision???

Either way Pagan is gone and for that I am happy.

Settlement wasn't discussed last night - that'd be crazy to do at a Board meeting - you could be sure Ron Joseph would have been there if it was.

Mitchell has rubbed some up the wrong way - I'm with Wes Lofts all the way on that call and always have been. Mitchell won't be the coach - but I've no doubt he'll be offered an extension to his assistants position.

I really don't like the sound of the 'Brown Deal'.

And I concur with kingkerna. I think Pagan's gone and they're sussing out candidates rather than just going straight for Mitchell who may still get the position.

Likely Pagan settlements may also have been part of the discussions but perhaps only at an internal level rather than a negotiation with Ron Joseph.

I've got no complaints about the meeting or how anything has been handled, because I've got no idea what's been happening behind those closed doors. I'm not prepared to make a whole lot of stuff up in my head about how this has happened and who said what etc. It's just a meeting which the media has latched onto like the second coming of Christ. How people can come to the conclusion it's a debacle and the review is amateurish is baffling.

As our once great club continues to explode and political in fighting is now at its bickering best.....I wish somebody would stop and remeber what this great club was all about and how much joy it has bought to people over the years and the who's who use to love to been seen at the club but not anymore....

We need positive energy to return to the club....it is a amazing feeling and it would spread thru the club rapidly....

Its time to bring in new people from the top down....and in no way should mitchell be coach he has been there to long and has been there from the Briattiain era thru to the Pagan era...we need fresh ideas from outside the club and you will be amazed what will happen to this club....we have a core of a good list with Fevola, Stevens(yes stevens), Kennedy, Walker, Simmo, Lance(yes Lance), Thorton, the irishman and his brother, Bower,Bentick,and lets not forget the man who is going to take us to the Promise Land MURPHY!!!!!

All we need now is somebody to make them believe we are good enough to compete.........

Can anyone confirm that Fitzy was at the meeting? If so I am sure that should fill most of us with confidence seeing we believe he is the messiah, better to take longer to make the correct decision then too rush into the wrong one to please the masses.

Fraser Brown is a businessman, as is Richard Pratt. Both Carlton men, with the same colour money. Who gives a rats that he might have received a brown paper bag in the past!

Pay Pagan out (ie that is up to $1.2 million we don't have to find ourselves - thats 6,000 members), and take the best performing coach at the level below the AFL. Or compromise - thanks Dog for the cash - Pagan is gawn and Mitch gets an interview.

We are not in a position to (a) refuse cash and (b) not sack Pagan. as to (c) who is going to coach? lets work that one out in the coming weeks.
