JE spoke very well on Aw the other week.
He spoke about a ticket being organised.

Ch10 Sports tonight ids reporting that the End will come at the meeting tomorrow night!
Might happen earlier depending on what station you watch although if you watch fox footy it mightn't happen at all!

By the way, I wholeheartedly disagree with the theory that you remove Pagan's assistants in 07, then get rid of him at the end of the 08 season. Elshaugh is rusted on to the point where Pagan insisted the club is contractually obliged to allow Pagan one assistant of his choice.

Undermining the senior coach by stacking the coaches box with unwanted assistants is hardly going to bring out the best in him, is it?

So why would we do that, and then subject ourselves to two more years of Pagan?

The answer is simple: either the board believe he's the right person to develop our list and get the team playing cohesive winning football over the next few years, or they don't.

If they do, he stays. If they don't, he should be given the arse without any further delay. The stakes are just too high for inaction.

It's common sense. Not just for a football club, but any business.

I think *if* Pagan goes and Mitchell arrives he'll very much be in the Alastair Clarkson mould. He has no reputation to uphold, he won't be the next big hope, merley the realisation and confirmation that we're in the shit and it's a long way out. The good thing is it will be kids all the way, and with any luck they'll a) get solid game time week in week out and b) be encouarged to have a bloody crack week in week out with no fear of failure.

If in two years time Mitchell is not right, then it won't be the drama it is now to not renew his contract.

Dunstall spoke interestingly about Clarkson tonight on On the couch … he said, after 5 weeks when the Dawks were 4 and 1 the meedyah was bagging the club for not re-signing the coach. Ten weeks later when the win column had had bugger all entries and plenty in the loss column the meedyah wanted the coach ousted. The point being one needs time to judge the task being performed by key personnel. Whether it is right or wrong I think Denis has had his time. It's not about guessing if another person could have achieved better results in the 4 years Denis has had. It's just that, IMO, Pagan's time is up.

If Mitchell is chosen I hope like hell we follow the 'Hawthorn 2005' model with a coach under instruction to play as many kids as possible and finish low on the ladder.

We need 4 wins or less next year.

Exactly.

That's what I'm worried about.

I smell 2004 all over again.

I was never in favour of Pagan's appointment in the first place. It was a last ditch grab by Elliott to gain some votes from the faithful. Elliott went, but Pagan stayed on. Since then the game has developed and it has been clear that Pagan has struggled to adapt. The time for change is now. We can't afford to wait any longer. Some Carlton supporters will die in the next couple of years and they deserve a better farewell.

It's Blue murder - H/S.

Lofts doesn't rate Mitchell and believes a payout to Pagan would be suicide.

As does Collo.
Quote:
"I don't think he's anywhere near it," Lofts said. "He's a little survivor. He survives on his wits and playing up to the ones that matter. I don't think he'd be a senior coach."

Quote:
As for the new president, Graham Smorgon, Lofts is equally unimpressed. "I think there is a worry with the administration. There's a lack of football background and expertise at the top," he said.

"I think Smorgon is hopeless, to be honest. I think he's a square peg in a round hole. Apparently he's not even liked very much in his own fraternity."

  :(
Quote:
"Once you get away from 'Sticks' (Stephen Kernahan) there's really nobody there with any football depth, especially when you compare it to the old days when we had Jack Wrout and the like to keep the winning culture going," he said.

"All that sort of wisdom has gone. It's going to be an uphill struggle to get it back."

People probably said that about Pagan before he got lucky....took about 20 years to find out they were right.

This must be getting awfully close to libel.

Williams and Gleeson are on the board, aren't they? Plus Fitzy's there now. How many did they have in the old days. Could have mentioned why a fair few of our ex-players aren't coming near the club...

Things are hotting up....
