Good article and good on you Murphy for making a go of it already.

Mind you Pagan's words at the end of the article seem to be a little hollow. He calls it believing in a "dream" that suggests to me that he sees it as something that is not really real, but rather something that if he believes hard enough will occur.

I think that's the wrong school of psychology for mine. I hope the other people in power around the club have more faith.

can i just make a comment he says that we have become stronger, and i can tell from going down to training that we have bulked up with players like Fev,Houlihan, Walker, Waite, Fish and livo have got very big but yet on the website and in the two newspapers reviews for the season, not one player has put on any kilos, it is all the same to last year?

You can't just stand there and say "we will make finals, top 4, win the cup." All he's saying is "we're still pushing for a berth this year."

I laughed when I read these two together in the same article

No one's bothered to update any of the info from last year.

I think DOA said Walker's a lot heavier than that & Pagan keeps saying everyone has bulked up so you'd think they'd fix it up.

DOA has said on another site that Walker is at 92 kgs at the moment, that may drop down a bit during the season.

So that's 7 kgs over last year.

when are they going to upate the profiles on the cfc site?!!

I'm pretty sure the AFL site content creators input that info, the CFC has nothing to do with it.

Hopefully when they update details for the record they will put up the new figures.

He isn't a freak like Deledio and their target audience of brainless Carlton haters will remember this if Murphy doesn't have a debut year like Deledio. They'll use it to bag a kid like they do to Andrew Walker on Bogfooty because he's a write off at just 19!

Some will also use this as another example of Denis being past his use by date because he's putting pressure on a kid.

It shaits me that a club that cant sell itself is using a kid thats been at the club for 5 minutes and at age 18 is riding the kids back for positive media.. almost singlehandedly.. id prefer murph was in the shadows this week (as far as whether he may or may not be the next deledio) and the club focussed only on kouta.

sure we can talk about how were excited for him debuting.. but to be drawn into comparisons with deledio????

Having listened to some audio of Pagan's comments, he didn't say he was the next Deledio though, Synbad. I'm not sure that he even mentioned Deledio, as I can't remember what he said precisely. But he certainly wasn't saying he will be the Rising Star, nor that he will be head and shoulders above the other draftees this year, nor that he is as good as Deledio. Not every No. 1 draft pick plays every game, and some don't play much if at all like Luke Ball.

He didn't even say that Murphy would play every game - as you can see from the above excerpts, he doubted it, and merely pointed out that he is ready to go now.

I don't know whether Pagan made a point of mentioning Murphy. I would think he was responding to media questions. Inevitably, Murphy will be compared for better or worse to Deledio, Cooney, and Ball as well as any other of the most recent crop of draftees who does well this year. I'm sure that some of the stuff in the articles says more about the thoughts of the scribes writing the stories and their desire to draw these comparisons than Pagan's. If Pagan had stonewalled them, that would have been the story right there.

He did say that he is the future for us. This might be spun a number of ways, but I took it to mean that he isn't the present but the hope is he will continue to develop into an influential player.

And Kouta had shared the limelight in his interview with one of the papers in which he remarked on Murphy and his attitude and ability. I don't think this was a cat we could keep in the bag.

But why should we have tried? He IS a much needed boost to our hopes. Even if Pagan hadn't talked about him, Carlton fans would still be carefully scrutinising his game. Membership is down, and what is wrong in putting out a bit of positive info regarding our future?

all top draft selections come with added expectations and pressures and media interest.

even melbourne has come out and said one of bate, bartram or jones will play.

i'm sure they would have said similar things about their boys. future of the club etc etc

This week we've had some good press, makes a good changefrom the last 2-3 weeks. I think the article is good, nice sentiments, well said by Pagan.

I also think that selling our young kids by talking about them is one of our better points to sell, so we should continue to do it. It doesn't mean interview Murphy every week, it just means reminding all the fans that finally there's light at the end of the tunnel and we can put the draft penalties behind us. (I'd porefer these to never be mentioned by CFC in public again).

see we would have better off winning more games and getting pick 9 - no one cares about pick nines! Oh poor JR - the forgotten man of football.
