The board will decide on the right time to announce a Ball and Coach Sponsor.
The Board are doing well.
They are on a 3 year journey with a plan to get us to a $0 P/L by 2007. No idea whether it was at the start or the end of 2007

Question about conflict of Interest. We tried to get the stanes and U2 to play at the OO. Stones refused as they are the only thing going round who are older than the OO.

Social Club Supporters have issues.
The club took away the pay in instalments this year as they needed your money quickly. Problem was memberships are at least 10% down on last year. Therefore the revenue is less too. The drip feed memberships are going to be offered to lapsed members.

End of 2007.

Collins also talked about how Whitehead has appealed the decision on the last day possible and that the case will impact on not just Carlton Football Club, but the AFL and 15 other clubs also.

Best part of the night was watching Synbads face when Lance Whitnall was given life membership. Even better will be when synbad is asked to write Lance's name up on the board. Maybe we can organise a sponsorship with mastercard when the time comes

What vote are you referring to SHHH?

Why the hell would the Stones or U2 want to play at a dilapidated outdoor venue? No harm in trying I guess. Good idea by the club on installment based memberships.

The only kinds of viable performance based contracts (IMO) are goal-based for permanent forwards, which is harsh if they are quality goal kickers (added pressure), the other being minimum level of games played if you are injury-plagued.

Lock in the latter for Michael Gardiner with the Eagles.

Quite a few people tonight could stake that claim.

The usual suspects stirred the pot. But all in all im confident that the wheels are turning in the right direction. Hopefully the redevelopment of PP can inject some energy into the place and a turn for the better on the field will really bring some enthusiasm to the place.

Or stupidity for removing it in the first place.

That's the better answer!
and to explain Mr Moloney... He wants to drink after a game and gets tossed out at 6pm.

If they need more upfront memberships, you force their hand where possible. Makes sense. If they've secured a greater number of upfront memberships than this time last year then the strategy has worked, so far.

I sat with Danielle, Jarusa and CK plus some others plus Synbad came by for a chat.

It was very disappointing. The difficult questions were not answered. The morale was low and the Board seems to have gone stale and seems more interested in protecting themselves.

All focus on cost - which is understandable to a degree as the club is in the shits - but it is clear that they are trying to cost cut themselves out of trouble instead of growing out of trouble. There was no mention of investing anywhere (except the PP development IF the can get the money from outside).

Also, they have no idea of marketing and how to strengthen the brand. No idea about how to communicate with members and how to make them feel more optimistic. Conversation with a board member very disappointing - he did not listen but just giving me the "script".

All in all - I have shifted camp and I am now clearly with Synbad on these issues.

We need urgently new blood - lots of it - with people who know how to grow the membership and revenue as well as modernise the club. Everything was so old fashioned and bereft of new ideas.

Also got confirmed that we are loosing members at the "high end" i.e. Coterie, premium mebers etc. Not good .

I had this feeling they were doing the "North Melbourne" thing instead of really trying to be a power house. When you use the on-field perfomance to explain the off-field issues and only see on-field success as a way to grow revenue - well then you have lost it.

Very depressing.

So … did anyone ask this?

Synbad must have posted this right at the same time I merged the two threads. Sorry about that! :P

Congratulated Greg Lee and wished him all the best.

I disagree. In our situation we need all the memberships we can get, not to piss people off who might be struggling to get the money up front. By all means offer REAL incentives to signup early, but if the only thing you can come up with is to remove a payment option then you haven't been creative enough.

And the fact that the club feels that it needs to reinstate it shows that it was ill thought in the first place.

I was disappointed not to see Lance accept his Life membership... surely a guy who has served and been served by Carlton for 10 years can be gracious enough to accept his life membership or at least send an apologetic message to the the members.

This sounds like a press conference with the media substituted for the general public. How pointless is that?

Someone at the club steer them into this forum - most people here want to help not run over the top of them.

Great to catch up with everyone.

Two questions on the night were asked by TC'ers. I think one got an answer of sort.

My first AGM so it was a a bit of a novelty. Reports from those that have been to many (one guy I was talking to had been every year since 1973) was that this was a particularly fiery meeting.

It certainly seemed feiry to this little black duck.

The standard of questioning was very up and down, some very eloquent - speakers and some people who were obviously trippers.

The standard of answering was the same, some questions dealt with in an OK fashion yet some completely ignored.

Some info from the night.

- 2000 votes were cast in the Election.
- Collo said ground maintenance costs were 700-800 thousand a year, I heard a much higher figure later in the night.
- confirmed that we were $1M over the salary cap in 2002.

Syd Jackson was there!

My favourite comment of the night, some old codger ended his question with "you guys couldn't market fish to the fish market!".
