I think my point is .. people will give.. supporters/ sponsors even the rich.. if theyre inspired to do so and given good reasons and a plan on why they should donate/ give/ invest etc...

Right now this is lacking from the club and needs to be addressed.

Rubbish
What we really need and still have is the best footballing Board of X Players that we can muster for the next time the boards go at it head to head before the main game!

Why would we as a club vote for BUSINESS PEOPLE when we get to vote for Sticks and all the rest.

Before you start the Printing Company is near on a front , Collo has business brains and we need more brain and $$$ and less football braun

What we need are people who are not afraid to be visionaries.

Currently the club is a joke.

If someone could translate the first paragraph of SHHH's work help me out..

You would vote for a balance of people with different skills I would have thought but with the major problem being debt it would seem to me that
several experts in the debt reduction /financial planning areas would be handy or candidates with access to those people who can short term and long term plan and get us out of relying on wealthy benefactors, white knights or long suffering members/supporters tin rattling and begging to the AFL to dip our snouts in the CBF....

A snippet at the bottom of the article referred to in this thread mentions the names of the new candidates…

Quote:
One of the three candidates seeking to challenge incumbents at Carlton's election has made the redevelopment of Princes Park his main election platform and expressed "concern" about the direction of the club.

Marcus Clarke, a barrister and social club board member has nominated for a board position, along with businessmen and coterie members Greg Lee and Craig Hart. Clarke said he was not on a ticket with either Lee or Hart and was a supporter of Stephen Kernahan, who is one of the three directors facing the members (John Valmormida and Chris Pavlou are others).

"I think he should be supported. I'm opposing the other two," said Clarke, who said he was "concerned about certain aspects" of the club's direction, but would not elaborate.

Carlton last night was yet to confirm whether the nominations of Clarke, Lee and Hart had been accepted and complied with the club's articles. Hart has been seconded by Carlton's No. 1 ticketholder, Vivienne Kerr, widow of club powerbroker Laurie Kerr.

ELWOOD
our Board over the years has included business men such as
Deisel
Sticks
SOS
SWAN - hated Jack with passion= reason for standing
Collo
Lofts

Hunter
Hall
and many others who I have left off including Armstrong, Ashman Serge Silvagni.
That's what I'm talking about.

Those in red actually have a business clout background and some $$$ to throw around.

Not that I need to look at the current board but how come people stiull talk of Pratt etc when Matheison sits on the board? Does he throw his money around for the CLUB?

The 3 who are standing I need to look at but if they have the slightest ability it's better than an x footballer with none!

I had a good hard think about this one Synbad. If he wasn't a pom I would be approaching Richard Branson to take over from Collo. Great entrepreneur and visionary. Come to think of it, any personality will come in handy when compared to Ian's. Also have an alignement in names which could translate into corporate spornsorship as the Vigin Blues.

Don't think he would be keen though.

My next choice is none oher that Geoffrey Eddelsten. Great medical entrepreneur who brought us pianos in the waiting rooms. Sure he got deregistered but the AMA are such a conservative lot. Not only did he bankroll the Swans and put the money where his mouth is but he did promote the game and club well. And what about the Swannettes, or in this politically correct world are they no longer viewed as visual expressionists.

We could do with such a character on our board willing to hire hitmen to do his dirty work in truly machiavellian tradition. You may have some concerns as to his ethical conduct but given the way we have been screwed by the AFL, at the moment it is not a prerequisite not highly desirable attribute.

I just believe a man who understands business and that a footy club is more than just a business its about football people and entertainement and whether we like it or not is abit like Roadshow.. u have a product... its on for 3 hours a week.. you need bums on seats... whether you liked that movie or not.. youll still be back next week.. because football is unpredictable.. and anything happens.

But to sell a product for entertainment .. you must give the perception its going to give you something back.

Then when it becomes your favourite form of entertainment you turn it into a lifestyle for the punters.

Right now were just this thing... doing stuff... not very well...
Its not marketed well... its not managed well... its not entertaining well...

From what I've heard from decent sources, Greg Lee is seen as not only a committee member, but the man to take over from Collins in the next two years.

Given Lee's profile, I think he would be exactly the kind of leader we need.

IMPLOSION ???

IT SEEMS from a rank’n’file members’ point of view that the club is in the initial stages of an upcoming implosion….wrong??

IT SEEMS from a rank’n’file members’ point of view that the club is in a shambles at the moment and in need of SERIOUS CHANGE on a number of levels.

IT SEEMS from a rank’n’file members’ point of view that this change needs to BEGIN at the AGM with the voting in of new faces who have new ideas of how to restore the clubs pride & strength ON and OFF the field (including a plan to get some SERIOUS CASH together FAST for a seemingly fast approaching hefty contract payout!!!) at board level.

Carlton members one & all,
If you believe the club is in trouble don’t just do nothing but bitch & moan on TC, please exercise your right to vote and vote for change.
Here’s a budzyism for ya…â€
